## Story

## The Brave Princess Who Loves Exploring

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, there was a princess named Lina who loved maps. She kept one folded in her pocket and drew tiny stars beside every place she explored.

One sunny afternoon, Lina and her friends Tomas, Bea, and Noor found the open gate to the old hedge maze beside the castle walls.

"We can explore for twenty minutes," Lina said, checking the little clock in the garden tower. "We stay together, and we mark our turns with chalk."

Tomas held the chalk. Bea carried water. Noor carried a ribbon to tie near the entrance so they could find the first path again.

At first, the maze felt like a game. Then the hedges grew taller, the paths curved back on themselves, and the gate disappeared behind green walls.

"This looks unfamiliar," Noor said.

Lina unfolded her map. "Then we stop and think."

## Turned Around in the Maze

The friends had not been in the maze for long, but worry made the minutes feel bigger. They turned one corner, then another. Both paths ended at leafy walls.

Everyone grew quiet.

"We are not finished yet," Lina said. "We have clues."

She pointed to the chalk marks on the stones.

"We came from there," she said. "The sun is on our left, so the castle is behind that hedge. And listen."

Far away, a fountain splashed.

"The garden fountain is near the exit," Bea said.

Lina smiled. "Then we follow the sound, but we keep marking the path."

## Dead Ends and a Giant Spider

As they continued, the group met more twists and turns. Some paths ended quickly. Some made loops. Each time, Tomas marked the stones and Lina drew the new shape on her map.

At one corner, a large garden spider sat in a web stretched between two hedges. Everyone stopped.

"It lives here," Noor whispered. "We should not break its web."

"Good thinking," Lina said.

They backed up, found another path, and left the spider in peace.

Soon they reached what looked like another dead end. Bea noticed cool air blowing through the leaves.

"There is space behind this hedge," she said.

Lina looked down and saw flat stones hidden under moss. They stepped from stone to stone, followed the breeze, and found a small wooden gate.

On the gate was a carved arrow pointing toward the garden.

## A Win at Last

Lina lifted the latch. The gate opened into a bright garden surrounded by tall hedges.

The sun warmed their faces. Birds sang in the trees. The fountain splashed nearby, exactly where Bea had guessed.

"We made it," Tomas said, dropping onto the grass.

"We thought it through," Noor said.

Lina spread the map on the ground. Their chalk marks and notes showed the path they had taken, including the wrong turns.

"Wrong turns are useful," she said. "They tell you where not to go next."

They shared apples and biscuits from Bea's bag and laughed about the loop that had tricked them twice.

## By the Castle Walls

The friends sat on a grassy patch near the castle walls, smiling while they caught their breath.

"I liked how we stopped instead of running," Bea said. "Running made every path look the same."

Tomas nodded. "The chalk helped."

"The fountain helped too," Noor said. "I never thought of listening for a way out."

Lina tucked the map into her pocket. "A good explorer uses eyes, ears, friends, and patience."

Before dinner, they showed the gardener where the gate had jammed and where the sign had tipped over. The next visitors would have an easier time.

As they walked back to the castle, Lina was already drawing a new star on her map.
