## Story

## A Day at the Beach

Lucy and Max arrived at the dog-friendly part of the beach with water, a towel, and Max's favorite blue frisbee.

Max wagged his tail as soon as his paws touched the sand.

"First water," Lucy said.

Max drank from his bowl. Then Lucy checked that the play area was clear before tossing the frisbee low across the sand.

Max chased it, picked it up, and pranced back proudly.

## Watching the Other Dogs

Two dogs nearby watched the frisbee. One bounced on its front paws. The other stayed close to its owner.

"They look interested," Lucy said. "But we ask first."

She walked over with Max beside her.

"Would your dogs like to play?" Lucy asked.

One owner smiled. "Poppy would love to. Bruno likes to watch."

Lucy looked at Max. His body was loose, and his tail wagged softly.

"Ready to share one toss?" she asked him.

Max nudged the frisbee toward her foot.

## One Toss at a Time

Lucy tossed the frisbee to Poppy first. Poppy ran fast, grabbed it, and brought it back to her owner.

Max watched closely.

"Your turn," Lucy said.

Max chased the next throw. Then Poppy had another turn. Bruno sniffed the frisbee once but did not chase it.

"Bruno says no thank you," Lucy said.

His owner laughed. "That is exactly what he says."

They kept the game short, with water breaks after every few throws.

## The Extra Ball

The next beach day, Lucy packed Max's frisbee and one washable ball for sharing.

Poppy came running. Bruno came walking. A small dog named Nia joined too.

"Same rules," Lucy said. "Ask first, take turns, stop when a dog is tired."

Max played two frisbee turns, then flopped beside his towel. Poppy chased the ball. Bruno watched from the shade with his tail thumping.

Lucy scratched Max behind the ears. "Sharing worked because everyone had a choice."

Max sighed happily and rested his chin on the blue frisbee, sandy and content.
