## Story

## Sandy and Stella

Sandy the sand dollar and Stella the sea star lived in the same tide pool. Sandy liked smooth sand. Stella liked rocky edges with tiny hiding places.

After a windy night, the pool looked different. Fresh seaweed floated near the rocks.

"Let us explore," Stella said.

"Slowly," Sandy replied. "The seaweed may cover holes."

They moved side by side, watching the water lift and lower the green strands.

## A Tangled Path

Stella reached for a shiny pebble, but a ribbon of seaweed drifted over two of her arms. It was not tight, but it made moving awkward.

"I do not like this," Stella said.

"Stay still," Sandy said. "Pulling might make it twist."

Carl the crab came around the rock. "Do you need space?"

"Yes, please," Stella said.

Carl stopped the small fish from splashing nearby. Oliver the octopus rested one gentle arm on a loose end of seaweed so it would not drift farther.

## Waiting for the Wave

Sandy watched the water. Every few breaths, a small wave slipped into the pool and lifted the seaweed.

"When the next wave comes, move one arm back," Sandy said.

Stella nodded.

The water rose. The seaweed floated. Stella moved one arm free.

"Good," said Carl.

The next wave lifted the seaweed again. Stella moved another arm. No one yanked or rushed.

Soon the seaweed drifted away from her path.

## Back to Exploring

Stella stretched all five arms. "Thank you for not pulling me."

"The water was already helping," Sandy said. "We just watched for the right moment."

Oliver let the seaweed float toward a quiet corner of the pool. Carl checked the sand for hidden dips.

The friends found the shiny pebble at last. They left it where it was and made up a game: whoever noticed the next change in the tide pool got to choose the path.

Sandy noticed bubbles under a rock.

Stella noticed a new little current.

Together they explored the familiar pool as if it were brand new.
