## Story

## Morning on the Beach

Sammy the seagull, Clive the crab, Sandy the sandpiper, and Tula the turtle met near the tide line on a bright morning.

Sandy pecked gently at the sand. Clive clicked his claws. Sammy watched the waves from above.

"Quiet," Tula said. "Do you see that tiny trail?"

A small hatchling turtle was moving across the sand. It did not hurry, but it kept pointing toward the bright water.

"Should we carry it?" Clive asked.

"No," Tula said. "Hatchlings need to crawl. We can give it room."

## The Clear Path

The friends looked around. A beach towel sat near the hatchling's path, and a family was walking toward the water with a cart.

Sammy flew low, not too close to the hatchling, and called to the family.

Sandy hopped near the towel and chirped until a child noticed.

"Dad, the bird is standing by a tiny turtle," the child said.

Dad stopped the cart. "Good eyes. Let us move around and give it space."

He picked up the towel and carried it farther away. The family waited behind the hatchling instead of in front of it.

## Clive's Job

Clive felt nervous. He was small, and the beach looked wide.

"What can I do?" he asked.

"Watch the sand near the rocks," Tula said. "Tell us if the hatchling turns toward a footprint."

Clive hurried sideways to the footprint and stood beside it like a tiny signpost.

"This dip is steep," he called.

The hatchling paused, then crawled around the edge. Clive stayed back and did not touch.

"That helped," Sandy said.

Clive clicked one claw, pleased.

## Into the Water

The hatchling reached the wet sand. A small wave slid up, lifted it gently, and carried it into the sea.

No one cheered loudly. They kept the beach quiet until the hatchling was past the foam.

The child whispered, "It made it."

"It did the hard part," Dad said. "We just stayed out of the way."

Sammy landed beside Clive. "The Beach Brigade was careful today."

"Careful feels good," Clive said.

Tula watched the ripples fade. Then the friends walked back along the shore, leaving smooth sand behind them.
