## Story

## A Day at the Beach

Benny the bear, Freddie the frog, Lenny the lobster, and Sally the seagull met at their favorite beach after breakfast.

Benny started a sandcastle. Freddie hopped near the little waves. Lenny explored a shallow pool. Sally flew overhead and sang to the wind.

Then Sally saw something bright beside the dune.

"Bottle cap," she called.

Benny found a wrapper near his sandcastle. Freddie spotted a plastic bag caught on beach grass.

"This beach needs help," Lenny said.

## Ranger's Rules

Ranger Mina arrived with gloves, litter pickers, and three bags.

"We can clean safely," she said. "Soft plastic and paper can go in these bags. Sharp things are for adults. Natural things like shells and seaweed stay here."

"Even old seaweed?" Freddie asked.

"Yes," said Ranger Mina. "It gives food and shelter to beach animals."

The friends put on gloves. Sally watched from above for litter near the rocks. Benny held the bag open. Lenny used his claws to point, not pinch, when he saw something sharp.

## The Careful Cleanup

The crew worked in short rows across the sand. They picked up wrappers, bottle caps, a broken toy shovel, and one long piece of string.

"String can tangle feet," Sally said.

"Then into the bag it goes," Benny replied.

Freddie found a piece of glass and stepped back.

"Ranger Mina!" he called.

Ranger Mina used her tool to place the glass in a hard container.

"Good choice," she said. "Calling for help is part of cleaning."

## Clean Sand

When the bags were full, the friends sat in the shade and drank cold water. The beach was not spotless, but it was much cleaner.

A little crab crossed the sand without bumping into the plastic bag. Beach grass moved freely in the wind.

"Can we make a sign?" Sally asked.

Ranger Mina gave them a board. Together they wrote, `Take litter home. Leave shells and seaweed here.`

Benny set the sign near the path.

"Now the beach can keep being a beach," he said.

The friends packed up their gloves and promised to check the sand again after the next busy weekend.
