# The Eco Warriors

_Max, Lily and Sami Clean Up the Beach_

Max the monkey, Lily the lizard, and Sami the snail find litter on the beach. A ranger helps them sort safe items, understand recycling, and learn simple ways to protect wildlife without disturbing it.

## Story

## The Mess on the Beach

Max, Lily, and Sami came to the beach early, before the sand grew hot. They wanted to look for crab tracks and draw waves with sticks.

Instead, they found a plastic bottle, three wrappers, and an old shoe near the path.

"This does not belong here," Lily said.

Sami looked at the bottle. "Can we clean it?"

Max started to reach for it, but Ranger Jo called from the boardwalk.

"Gloves first," she said. "And adults handle sharp or strange things."

## Environmental Detectives

Ranger Jo gave each friend a job. Max held the recycling bag. Lily carried the trash bag. Sami checked the sand slowly for tiny pieces that were easy to miss.

"I found a bottle cap," Sami called.

"Good detective work," said Max.

They sorted safe litter into the right bags. Ranger Jo picked up the old shoe and checked that nothing was living inside before placing it with trash.

"Why sort it?" Lily asked.

"Some materials can be made into new things," Ranger Jo said. "That is recycling."

## Small Ways to Help

When they rested in the shade, Ranger Jo showed them the signs near the dunes.

`Stay off the dunes.`

`Keep lights low near turtle nesting areas.`

`Take litter home.`

"Can we build little shelters for turtles?" Max asked.

Ranger Jo shook her head. "Turtles need open sand and moonlit, quiet beaches. We help by leaving their paths clear."

Sami nodded. "So helping can mean not touching."

"Exactly," said Ranger Jo.

## The Clean Path

By lunchtime, the path from the boardwalk to the water was clear. The dunes were untouched, the bins were full, and the friends had washed their hands.

"Are we Eco Warriors now?" Lily asked.

Ranger Jo smiled. "You are eco helpers. Helpers keep learning."

Max liked that. It sounded like something they could do again.

Before they left, the three friends made one small plan: each beach trip would end with a litter check around their own towel.

Sami drew a tiny check mark in the sand. "Start small. Keep going."
