## Story

## Toby Spots Tiny Tracks

Toby the sea turtle lived near a bright coral reef. He liked to float where the water was shallow and watch the beach change with the tide.

One morning, Toby noticed tiny tracks crossing the damp sand. Three baby crabs were moving slowly toward a tide pool.

"They look small," said Mina the fish.

"They know how to walk on sand," Toby said. "We should give them space."

A wave slid close, then pulled back. The baby crabs paused behind a shell until the sand was calm again.

## The Safe Way Around

The path to the tide pool had rocks, seaweed, and a large footprint left by a beach walker.

Toby watched from the water. He did not crawl onto the beach or carry the crabs. Sea turtles are not made for that kind of helping.

"Can we move the seaweed?" Mina asked.

"No," Toby said. "The crabs can choose their own path. We can keep the water quiet near them."

The reef fish stopped splashing at the edge. A gull landed nearby, and Toby lifted his head from the water.

"This spot is busy," he said in his calm turtle voice.

The gull looked at Toby, then flew to another part of the beach.

## Little Crab Line

The baby crabs reached the footprint and stopped. It looked like a sandy bowl.

The first crab crawled down. The second followed. The third waited at the top, unsure.

The first crab clicked softly. The second crab turned back. Together, they crawled out of the footprint and waited beside the third.

Then all three went around the edge instead.

"They changed their plan," Mina whispered.

"That was smart," Toby said.

The tide pool was close now. Clear water shimmered between two stones.

## Back in the Pool

The baby crabs slipped into the tide pool one by one. They disappeared under a ledge where the water was cool and safe.

Mina swished her tail. "They made it."

Toby smiled. "They did the walking. We did the watching."

"Watching can help?" Mina asked.

"Yes," said Toby. "When tiny animals are moving where they belong, the kindest thing is often to keep space around them."

The reef grew busy again. Fish darted through the water, waves brushed the rocks, and Toby floated quietly near the shore until the tide began to rise.
