## Story

By the gentle stream where clear water danced over smooth stones, there lived a dreamy little mouse named Moonbeam. She had soft gray fur and eyes that gazed at clouds.

Moonbeam treasured her little wooden boat. She had painted it silver, like moonlight on water. Each evening, she floated it on the stream. The boat danced. The water sang. The stream sparkled in sunshine. Flowers nodded beside the bank. Moonbeam's cozy burrow sat beneath a willow tree. Its roots made perfect windows. The sound of flowing water filled her dreams.

One afternoon, a young squirrel named Rusty scampered down to the stream.

"What a beautiful boat," he said. "May I sail it? Just once?"

Moonbeam's paws tightened. But Rusty looked so hopeful.

"Please be careful," she whispered.

Rusty stepped onto a big stone. He leaned too far. Splash! He tumbled into the water. The boat bumped against rocks. One side was cracked. The silver paint had chipped away.

"I am so sorry!" Rusty said.

Water dripped from his tail. Moonbeam's heart felt hot and tight.

"I need quiet," Moonbeam said, hugging the boat close.

That night, Moonbeam could not sleep. Her chest felt heavy, like a stone. She stared at her broken boat. Being angry felt worse than the crack.

Morning came softly. Moonbeam sat by the stream. Something floated toward her. A tiny raft made of twigs! A smooth pebble painted silver sat on top. A note said:

"I am sorry. I made this for you. - Rusty"

Moonbeam picked up the raft. The knots were careful. The pebble gleamed like a little moon. Rusty must have worked all night. Her tight feeling began to melt.

She found Rusty under an oak tree. He looked worried when he saw her. Moonbeam sat beside him.

"Thank you for the raft," she said softly. "It is beautiful. I am sorry I sent you away so sharply. It was an accident."

Rusty's eyes grew wide.

"You are not angry?"

"I was," Moonbeam answered. "But anger felt heavy."

She held out her paw.

"Will you help me fix my boat?"

They spent the afternoon mending the boat with tree sap. They painted it with fresh silver. When they finished, they had two boats. As the sun set, both boats floated side by side. They caught the golden light.

"Everything looks softer when shared," Moonbeam said.

After that, Moonbeam kept a jar of silver paint beside the stream. When Rusty visited, they checked both boats for loose twigs before pushing them into the moonlight.
