## Story

Every evening, Sleepy Bunny followed the same quiet path through her house. She hopped past Grandma's old photographs hanging in wooden frames. She breathed in apple pie sweetness from the kitchen. She snuggled under her patchwork quilt, the one with the yellow stars. Tonight felt different. Her paws dragged. Her ears hung low like wilted flowers.

That afternoon, Squirrel had knocked over her tower of acorns, the tall one she had spent all morning building. Tumble, scatter, roll. Acorns everywhere.

"Oh no. I am so sorry!" Squirrel's voice had wobbled.

But Sleepy Bunny hopped away without looking back. Now her tummy felt twisted tight, like a knot in Mama's yarn.

"I am not ready to talk to Squirrel," she whispered into her pillow.

But saying it out loud made her feel worse, not better. Tap-tap-tap. Someone knocked at the window. Sleepy Bunny's ears perked up. Through the glass, a firefly blinked three times. It danced toward the garden gate.

"That is strange," she murmured.

Fireflies never came this close to bedtime.

Sleepy Bunny had never stepped outside after putting on her sleep clothes. Her heart thumped as she opened the door. Cool grass tickled her paws. Cricket songs filled the air. The moon painted everything silver. The firefly led her to the garden gate. There, hanging on the wooden post, was a small cloth bag. She tugged it down with both paws. Inside were three lumpy cookies shaped like hearts, still warm. A note was tucked underneath:

"Please forgive me. From your friend."

Sleepy Bunny touched one cookie. The edges were crooked. One heart was bigger than the others. Squirrel must have worked hard to make these herself. Her nose twitched. She remembered Squirrel sharing half a carrot last week. Squirrel holding her paw during the thunderstorm. Squirrel's funny hiccup-laugh that always made her smile. One accident with acorns could not erase all those good times. The tight knot in her tummy began to loosen.

"I thought forgiving meant pretending I was not upset," she said to the listening stars. "But maybe it means remembering the good things too."

She held the warm cookies close.

Staying angry felt like trying to sleep on a lumpy pillow. Letting go felt like fluffing it soft again. Her chest grew warm and light.

Sleepy Bunny hopped to her art corner and found her crayons. She drew two friends building the tallest acorn tower in the world together. She drew sunshine and flowers all around. She slipped it under Squirrel's door on her way back.

In her room, she tucked herself into bed and pulled up her star quilt. Apple pie sweetness drifted through the air. Grandma's photographs seemed to glow, reminding her of all the loved ones who had said "I am sorry" and "I forgive you" through the years.

She nibbled one lumpy cookie. It tasted sweet and kind. It tasted like having a friend.

Every evening now, Sleepy Bunny still hops her quiet path. Past the photographs. Past the kitchen. Into her cozy bed. Her heart feels softer now, with room for mistakes, apologies, and friends who try to make things right.

As her eyes grew heavy, she thought about tomorrow. She and Squirrel could build an even better acorn tower. Maybe it would topple again. Maybe they would laugh and start over.

She yawned, her whiskers twitching in a peaceful smile. Outside, the firefly blinked goodnight. The moon smiled down. And Sleepy Bunny drifted into dreams full of friendship and second chances.
