## Story

Morning dew sparkled like tiny stars as Max the mouse scampered through the wildflower meadow, his acorn caps clinking softly at his sides. Butterflies danced overhead, and bees hummed busy songs, but something felt missing in Max's small heart.

"Another morning of solo adventures," Max sighed, watching a pair of ladybugs sharing a leaf breakfast.

He had tried making friends, but most meadow creatures were too busy or too big to notice such a small mouse.

One cloudy dawn, while searching for fallen seeds, Max's whiskers twitched at an unusual sight. In a quiet corner of the meadow, partially buried under autumn leaves, a tiny green stem drooped toward the earth.

"Hello there, little plant," Max whispered, gently clearing away the leaves.

He recognized it as a sunflower seedling from watching Grandmother Owl's garden lessons. "You look like you could use a friend too."

Determined to help, Max spent the next several days preparing. He gathered soft moss to hold morning dew, constructed a twig shelter against the wind, and arranged smooth pebbles to keep the soil warm. Other meadow creatures watched with bemused expressions.

"What a waste of time!" Cricket chirped. "That plant will never grow here."

"It cannot even play games with you," Grasshopper added with a laugh.

Max's whiskers drooped, but he remembered what Grandmother Owl often said: friendship can grow from small kind things, one day at a time.

Each morning, Max brought fresh dewdrops in his acorn caps. During afternoon storms, he held leaves overhead to shield the delicate stem. At dusk, he hummed quiet songs about sunshine and growth.

Some days tested Max's patience. Summer heat wilted the leaves despite his careful watering. Wind scattered his twig shelter three times in one week. Each setback taught him something new: how to weave stems stronger, when to provide shade, where to guide the water.

As weeks passed, the seedling stretched skyward. Its leaves unfurled like green flags. Then one golden morning, Max arrived to find a bud.

"A bud!" he squeaked, dancing around the sturdy stem. "You are going to bloom!"

When the sunflower finally opened, it towered above the meadow like a second sun. Its cheerful face followed the real sun, while its strong stem swayed gently in the breeze. Other creatures gathered beneath its golden petals, amazed by its radiance.

"Max," called Cricket, looking sheepish, "would you teach me how to grow a flower friend too?"

Max was soon leading daily gardening lessons, sharing everything he had learned about patience, persistence, and plant care. The once-empty corner became a rainbow of blooms.

Now Max's mornings are full. He still collects dewdrops, but he shares them with a garden of growing friends. When the sunflower turns toward the sun, Max sits beneath it and hums along with the meadow.
