## Story

## Princess Sofia and the Castle School

Princess Sofia lived in a bright castle on a hill, where the schoolroom had tall windows, map-covered walls, and a bell that sounded like a silver spoon tapping a teacup.

Sofia liked the schoolroom best when everyone was busy being themselves. Prince William raced across the courtyard faster than anyone. Princess Lily painted tiny flowers along the edges of her spelling slate. Duke Oliver sang the morning song in a voice so clear that even the sleepy guards smiled.

Lady Sarah remembered every date in the kingdom's history. Max could fix a broken kite with string, twigs, and one patient frown. Adeline wore her curly hair in a proud, springy cloud.

Sofia was quiet at first. She watched carefully before she spoke, but she loved how different her classmates were. The school felt like a shelf of storybooks, each one opening to a new kind of wonder.

## Unkind Words

One windy morning, Sofia heard laughter near the cloakroom. It was not the happy kind.

Two older students were teasing Sarah about her glasses. Then they made jokes about Max's height and tugged at a ribbon in Adeline's hair.

Sofia's cheeks grew hot. She wanted to say, "Stop," but the word stayed behind her teeth.

Sarah folded her books against her chest. Max looked down at his shoes. Adeline blinked hard and hurried away.

That afternoon the schoolroom felt colder, even with sunlight on the floor. Sofia kept thinking about her friends' faces. Being quiet was easy. Staying quiet felt wrong.

## Advice in the Garden

After lessons, Sofia went to the castle garden. Rabbits nibbled clover by the path, birds hopped among the roses, and squirrels chased each other along the stone wall.

"I saw my friends being teased," Sofia told them. "I wanted to help, but I felt too small."

A brown rabbit twitched her nose. "Small can still be steady."

A robin puffed out his red chest. "And a quiet voice can still be clear."

The squirrels began placing acorns in a circle, each one a different size and shade. Sofia watched them build a pattern that would have looked plain if every acorn had been the same.

"Different things can belong together," Sofia said slowly.

The robin chirped as if that was exactly the answer.

## Sofia Speaks

The next morning, the teasing started again before arithmetic. This time Sofia stood beside Sarah, Max, and Adeline.

"That is unkind," Sofia said. Her voice shook, but it did not disappear. "Glasses help Sarah read the stars. Max fixed the royal kite when no one else could. Adeline's hair is beautiful because it is hers."

The schoolroom went silent.

The teacher, Madam Bell, stepped forward. "Thank you, Sofia. Everyone, sit down. We are going to talk before we begin fractions."

No one was scolded in a shouting way. Madam Bell asked each student to name something they did well and something they were still learning. The answers filled the room with surprises. One of the older students admitted he could not read music. Another said she felt nervous around horses.

Sofia noticed Sarah sitting straighter.

## The Talent Assembly

Madam Bell liked Sofia's idea for a school assembly. By Friday, the grand hall was full of benches, banners, and nervous whispers.

Sarah showed how her glasses helped her draw a perfect moon chart. Max repaired a wobbling stool while everyone counted the seconds. Adeline taught the class a clapping game from her grandmother.

Lily painted a picture of the whole school, making sure every child appeared in it. Oliver sang while William kept rhythm on a drum. Sofia read a welcome speech she had written herself.

The two students who had teased the others stood at the side of the hall. At first they looked embarrassed. Then they began clapping too.

When the assembly ended, the school did not feel fixed in a magical flash. It felt better in a real way, because people had started listening.

## Apologies

The next morning, Sarah found a folded note on her desk.

"We are sorry," one older student said, standing nearby. "We made jokes because we did not think about how they sounded."

"They hurt," Sarah said.

The student nodded. "We will not do it again."

Sofia was glad they apologized, but Madam Bell reminded everyone that apologies needed actions beside them. The older students helped set up shared lunch tables in the courtyard. They asked Max to show them how to mend their broken game board. They let Adeline choose the first song at recess.

Little by little, the school grew noisier in the best possible way.

## A Stronger School

Weeks later, Sofia returned to the garden with crumbs for the birds and carrot tops for the rabbits.

"I spoke up," she told them. "I was nervous, but I did it."

The robin landed near her shoe and sang one bright note.

At Castle School, the students still disagreed sometimes. They still made mistakes. But now they knew how to stop, listen, apologize, and try again.

Sofia stayed quiet when she needed to think. She spoke clearly when someone needed help. And every morning, when the silver bell rang, the schoolroom opened like a shelf of storybooks, full of voices that belonged.
