## Story

## Castle Bear and its Water Creature Friends

Castle Bear was a grand castle that stood tall on the edge of a vast moat. It had towers that reached high into the sky, and a drawbridge that would creak open every morning to let in visitors.

What made Castle Bear special were its water creature friends. Fish with glittering scales lived in the moat. Frogs sang at night. Turtles warmed their shells on sunny stones.

Children from nearby villages came to watch the fish swim in silver lines and the turtles paddle faster than anyone expected.

The children stayed on the bank and fed the creatures only what the castle keeper allowed.

Whenever something interesting happened around Castle Bear, word spread quickly through the moat.

The moat felt like a busy village of fins, feet, shells, and songs.

## The Careless Spellcaster

In the forest beyond the hill lived a spellcaster who liked showing off. One day, he heard about Castle Bear's clear moat and decided to make a spell that would turn the water purple for a trick.

He did not ask the castle keeper. He did not ask the moat creatures. He stood near the reeds and began stirring sparks into a crooked wand.

Murky bubbles rose around his hands and drifted toward the moat. Beneath the water, the turtles narrowed their eyes, the fish darted into formation, and the frogs stopped singing all at once.

The moat creatures knew something was wrong. They were ready to protect their home.

## The Emergency Meeting

The creatures of Castle Bear's moat held an emergency meeting under the lily pads.

The turtles gathered near the flat stones. The fish circled in quick loops. The frogs hopped in from the reeds.

Everyone shared ideas. The turtles could block the bubbles with flat stones. The fish could carry pebbles and waterweed. The frogs could splash near the reeds to draw the spellcaster's attention away from the main channel.

As ideas passed from one creature to another, a plan began to take shape.

Everyone hurried back toward the moat, ready to protect their home.

"Positions!" called Castle Bear, and the moat creatures scattered to their places.

## Guarding the Moat

The creatures in the moat worked together to stop the bubbles before they spread.

The fish watched the bubbles and carried pebbles where the turtles pointed.

The frogs kept watch on land, hopping from one spot to another. They croaked whenever the spellcaster lifted his wand.

The turtles used their strong shells and flat stones to guide the murky bubbles into a shallow corner of the moat.

Each creature had a different strength. The plan worked because everyone listened for the next signal.

Castle Bear lowered the drawbridge and called for the castle keeper, who brought a net and a clean glass jar.

## Clean Water Again

The castle keeper scooped the bubbles into the jar and sealed it tight.

"No spells near the water without permission," she told the spellcaster.

The spellcaster looked at the jar, then at the worried creatures. "I thought it would be funny," he said quietly.

"Clean water is not a toy," said Castle Bear.

The spellcaster nodded and helped carry the jar away to be safely emptied in the stone spell sink.

That evening, the moat creatures celebrated. The fish brought clean bubbles. The frogs sang. Even the turtles joined in with slow shell shuffles.

As night settled, fireflies began to light up the sky. One little firefly named Sparkle flew down to join the celebration. She was amazed at how happy everyone looked after all of their hard work.

Sparkle asked what had happened, and one frog told her how the moat friends had worked together to protect the water.

Sparkle listened while her light glowed brighter. "That is a story worth shining for," she said.

Everyone danced under the starry sky until it was time for bed. Turtles tucked into shells, fish settled into seaweed beds, and the moat grew peaceful again.

After that night, whenever one creature faced trouble, another creature swam, hopped, or paddled over to help.

Some were fast. Some were slow. Some were big, and some were small. By morning, the moat felt safer because every friend had brought a different strength.

Castle Bear and his friends would remember that teamwork had helped them do something none of them could have managed by themselves.
