## Story

## Lily's Love for Exploration

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Lily who loved exploring. She lived in a big castle with many rooms, wide staircases, and gardens that changed with every season.

One day, while walking with Mr. Rowan, the castle gardener, Lily noticed an old green gate behind a curtain of ivy.

"Where does that lead?" she asked.

"To the rose garden," said Mr. Rowan. "It has been resting for a long time. We can look if we open it carefully."

He checked the latch, pushed the ivy aside, and let Lily step in beside him. Beyond the gate was a quiet garden full of tangled vines, sleepy flowerbeds, and birds hopping through the branches.

## Discovery of Secret Garden
The garden felt hidden, but not forgotten. A stone bench waited under a pear tree. A dry fountain held fallen leaves. Tiny green shoots pushed up between the weeds.

Mr. Rowan gave Lily a small notebook. "Before gardeners work, they look. What do you notice?"

Lily noticed which plants were dry, which path stones wobbled, and where bees were already busy. She drew a small map with circles for places that needed gentle care.

## Tired Plants
The next morning, Lily returned with Mr. Rowan, a watering can, and a pair of gloves that fit her hands.

Some plants were bent. Some leaves were spotted. Some flowers had not opened at all.

"Are they too sick to help?" Lily asked.

"Some may recover, and some may not," said Mr. Rowan. "Our job is to give them the best care we can."

## Tending the Garden

Lily began with the path. Mr. Rowan showed her how to pull small weeds by the root and leave helpful plants in place.

Then she filled the watering can halfway so it would not be too heavy. She poured slowly near the roots instead of splashing the leaves.

Each day brought one small change. A rose stem stood straighter. A patch of mint smelled fresh. A butterfly landed on a marigold that had opened overnight.

Gardens do not become beautiful all at once. They answer steady care in quiet ways.

## The Magic of the Secret Garden

The garden's magic was not a flash or a sparkle. It was the way everyone noticed something they could do.

The cook saved eggshells for the soil. The librarian lent a book about herbs. The stable hand fixed the loose garden gate so it swung smoothly.

Lily placed labels beside the plants. "Lavender," she read. "Rosemary. Thyme."

"A garden grows better when many hands help," said Mr. Rowan.

Lily looked at the neat beds, the buzzing bees, and the open gate. The garden felt secret in a new way: not hidden from people, but full of small wonders waiting to be noticed.

## A Courtyard Problem

One day, while Lily was carrying a basket of lavender to the kitchen, she heard someone crying near the courtyard bench.

It was a little boy named Tom. His favorite stuffed bear was missing.

"Where did you last have it?" Lily asked.

"By the fountain," Tom sniffed. "Then near the library. Then I watched the gardeners."

"Then we can retrace your steps," Lily said. "That is what Mr. Rowan taught me in the garden."

They asked the librarian if a bear had been found. They checked beside the fountain. Then they asked Mr. Rowan before looking near the tool shed.

"There is a storage chest by the wall," he said. "I will open it."

Inside, tucked beside a folded picnic cloth, was Tom's bear.

## Using Knowledge to Help Others

Tom hugged the bear, then held it out with a worried face. "His paws are muddy."

"We can ask how to clean him," said Lily.

The laundry maid showed them a soft cloth and a bowl of clean water. Lily dabbed the muddy spots while Tom held the bear still.

"Gentle care," Lily said, remembering the young rose stems.

When the bear was clean enough to dry in the sun, Tom smiled for the first time that afternoon.

## Growing Up Kind
Years later, people still remembered the hidden garden because Lily never let it become hidden again.

She grew herbs for the kitchen, flowers for the windowsills, and a small patch of soft grass where children could sit and read.

When visitors asked how she had made the garden bloom, Lily showed them the map from her first day. It was smudged at the corners and full of little circles.

"I started by noticing what needed care," she said.

Then she handed them a small watering can and invited them through the green gate.
