## Story

## Sir Cedric, the Kind-hearted Knight

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a knight called Sir Cedric. He could ride quickly, polish armor until it shone, and stand steady in a storm. But the thing people remembered most was how carefully he treated others.

Sir Cedric wrote a simple code for himself:

Help where you can.

Ask before you act.

Leave every road safer than you found it.

With his horse Clover beside him, he rode from village to village. He carried tools, bandages, spare rope, and a small bell to let people know he had arrived.

"Good morning," he would call. "Who needs a helping hand?"

## Sir Cedric and the Small Creatures

One morning, Sir Cedric and Clover reached a muddy forest path. Rain had washed leaves and twigs across an anthill near the road.

"We should step around," Sir Cedric said to Clover.

He placed two flat stones beside the anthill so wagon wheels would not roll too close. Then he moved the fallen twigs to the edge of the path.

A little farther on, a nest had slipped low in a shrub after the storm. Sir Cedric did not touch the birds. Instead, he tied a ribbon on a nearby branch and called for Mara, the village bird keeper.

"Thank you for marking the place," Mara said. "I can help without startling them."

Sir Cedric bowed. "Kindness means knowing when to help directly and when to find someone who knows more."

## Meeting Larger Creatures

In the afternoon, Sir Cedric reached a clearing where berry bushes grew thick beside the trees. Clover stopped and snorted softly.

At the far side of the clearing, a large bear was eating berries.

Sir Cedric did not go closer. He backed Clover along the path and waited behind a wide oak until the bear wandered away.

"The forest has room for us and for the bear," he said. "We do not need to meet in the middle of it."

Later, smoke curled from a rocky hill where a young dragon had made a nest too close to the road. Sir Cedric stayed at a safe distance and rang the village warning bell.

The dragon keeper arrived with a cart of warm stones and a map of better nesting caves.

"You did the right thing," the keeper said. "A calm warning keeps everyone safe."

## The Army of Kind Knights

News of Sir Cedric's work spread through the kingdom. Soon other knights asked to join him.

"We are not an army for battles," Sir Cedric told them. "We are a patrol for repairs, errands, and good manners."

The knights liked that. Dame Rosa knew how to mend wheels. Sir Tomas could lift heavy beams. Dame Imani sang cheerful songs while people worked. Sir Pippin was excellent at listening to children who had worries.

Together they fixed a broken bridge rail, carried water to a dry garden, and helped a baker deliver bread after his cart wheel cracked.

"The Kind Knights are here," people began to say when they heard the little bell. The words sounded better than any trumpet.

## The King Recognizes Sir Cedric and His Knights

King Arthur soon heard about the new patrol. He invited Sir Cedric and the Kind Knights to Camelot Castle.

"I have heard of bridges mended, animals respected, and neighbors helped," said the king. "That is service this court should honor."

He gave each knight a small silver pin shaped like an open hand.

"Wear these when you patrol," the king said. "Let people know help is near."

Sir Cedric thanked him, but the proudest moment came when Clover nudged the tool bag hanging by the door.

"You are right," Sir Cedric said. "The road is waiting."

## The Legacy of Kindness Lives On

The Kind Knights kept a board in every village square. People could write what needed doing: a fence to mend, a path to clear, a quiet neighbor to visit, a misplaced basket to return.

Children added drawings to the boards. Farmers added notes. The castle scribes made fresh lists every week so no request was forgotten.

Sir Cedric's code grew too:

Listen first.

Use gentle hands.

Share the work.

Say thank you.

The code was easy to remember because the knights practiced it every day.

## Kindness is Key

One autumn morning, the patrol found a busy crossing outside the market. Carts rattled by, people hurried, and small creatures darted through the grass near the road.

Sir Cedric and Dame Rosa set stones along the muddy edge so walkers had a clear place to step. Sir Tomas placed a wooden sign that said, "Slow wheels here."

Dame Imani helped an old peddler carry apples across the road. Sir Pippin knelt beside two children who were arguing over a dropped ribbon.

"One can hold it while the other ties it," he suggested. "Then switch next time."

By noon, the crossing was calmer. Nobody had done one grand thing, but many small things had made the road easier for everyone.

## Compassion towards Powerful Creatures

That winter, the dragon keeper asked the Kind Knights for help moving warning lanterns farther from the nesting caves.

The knights stayed on the marked path while the keeper explained what dragons needed: space, quiet, and a clear route to the warm stones.

"Respect sometimes means staying back," Sir Cedric told the younger squires.

They carried lantern poles, painted signs, and stacked extra stones where the keeper pointed. By evening, travelers could see the safe road, and the dragons could rest without surprise visitors.

## Spreading Joy Is Heroic Too
At the spring festival, King Arthur asked the Kind Knights to lead the parade.

Sir Cedric looked at Clover's tool bag, Dame Rosa's mended wheel, Sir Tomas's rope, Dame Imani's drum, and Sir Pippin's notebook of requests.

"We can lead it," he said, "as long as we end near the village board. There may be work waiting after the music."

The parade wound through the kingdom with bells, banners, and laughter. When it ended, Sir Cedric found three new notes on the board.

He smiled, picked up his gloves, and rang the little bell.
