## Story

## The Castle and the Dragons

Near a gray stone castle stood a village with red roofs and winding lanes. Beyond the last cottage was a pine forest where dragons sometimes flew at sunset.

Most villagers had never met a dragon. They only knew the old stories: wings like storms, claws like hooks, smoke curling from sharp teeth.

"If you see one, come inside," parents said.

So the children played near the well, not in the forest. When a winged shape crossed the grass, everyone looked up.

"Dragon," whispered Tom.

The shape dipped toward the trees and did not rise again.

## Discovering the Injured Dragon

The children stayed on the village path and listened. From the forest edge came a low, tired sound.

"Do not go closer," said Mira, the oldest child. "We need help."

She ran to the blacksmith, who rang the village bell. Soon the healer, the baker, and the castle keeper came with blankets, water, and a wide cart.

At the edge of the trees lay a young green dragon. One wing was caught beneath a fallen branch.

"Easy now," said the healer.

The children stood behind the low stone wall. Mira held up a bucket of water where the healer could reach it.

"Thank you," said the healer. "That is exactly the right help."

## Helping the Injured Dragon

The dragon watched the villagers with worried golden eyes. He did not roar. He only breathed little puffs of warm smoke.

"He is worried," said the healer. "Speak softly."

"Hello," Mira said from behind the wall. "We are helping your wing."

The dragon blinked once.

The grown-ups lifted the branch, wrapped the wing, and made a resting place in the empty sheep shed by the wall. The shed had space, shade, and a gate the healer could open safely.

For several days, villagers brought what the healer requested: clean cloth, cool water, and baskets of apples. The children drew pictures and left them on the fence.

The dragon nudged one picture with his nose. It showed a dragon and a village under the same sun.

## Learning About Loop

When the dragon felt stronger, he lifted his bandaged wing and gave a careful stretch.

"May we know your name?" asked Mira.

The dragon tapped three times on the ground and breathed a curl of smoke shaped like a loop.

"Loop?" guessed Tom.

The dragon's tail thumped happily.

Loop showed the villagers that dragons tapped greetings with their tails and used smoke shapes to tell stories. The villagers showed Loop how they baked bread and rang the bell for supper.

No one rode on his back. No one treated him like a pet. They learned how to be neighbors.

## A New Understanding

At last, the healer unwrapped Loop's wing.

"Try one small flap," she said.

Loop flapped once. Dust rose from the sheep shed floor. The children cheered from the fence.

He flapped twice and lifted a little into the air.

Before he flew home, Loop bent his long neck and breathed a smoke picture above the village square: a bell, a bucket, a blanket, and many small hands helping from the right place.

The villagers watched until he disappeared over the trees.

## A Greeting From the Sky

The next week, a winged shape crossed the grass again. This time, no one slammed a door.

Loop circled once above the castle, healthy and green in the sunlight. He dropped a pinecone into the square. Tied to it was a strip of blue cloth from the picture Mira had drawn.

Mira placed the pinecone on the village notice board.

"A greeting," she said.

That evening, the old dragon stories sounded different. They still had wings and smoke and forests, but now they also had buckets, blankets, and a young dragon named Loop.
