## Story

## The Kind Princess

In a bright kingdom with green gardens and silver fountains lived a princess known for her kind heart. She listened carefully, spoke gently, and looked for ways to help before anyone had to ask.

Every morning, the Princess walked through the castle gardens. She helped the gardeners carry seeds, read stories to children, and left bowls of water for tired birds.

One afternoon, while she was playing hide-and-seek with the children, she noticed a small group of travelers near the gate. Their coats were dusty. Their steps were slow.

"Hello," she called. "Do you need help?"

"We are," one traveler said. "We meant to cross the forest before sunset, but the path disappeared in the rain."

The Princess opened the gate. "Then you should rest here tonight. No one should wander a rainy forest hungry and worried."

## A Royal Welcome

The travelers stepped into the castle, shy and unsure.

"You are safe here," the Princess said. "Come warm yourselves by the kitchen fire."

She asked the cooks for soup, bread, and sliced apples. She asked the housekeeper for clean blankets. Then she sat with the travelers and listened while they told her about the flooded path and the storm that had startled them.

"Thank you for listening," said the youngest traveler. "Some people rush us when we are worried."

"Worry feels smaller when it is shared," the Princess said.

Before bed, she showed them the guest rooms and placed a small candle in the hall so they could find their way if they woke in the night.

"Rest well," she said. "Tomorrow we will help you find the road."

## Worried Neighbors

By morning, word had spread that strangers were staying at the castle. Some people in the nearby village grew worried.

"What if they take our food?" one person asked.

"What if more travelers come?" asked another.

The Princess heard the worried voices and felt a flutter in her chest. It would have been easy to hide inside the castle and hope the worry went away. Instead, she paused, steadied herself, and walked to the village square.

"I understand why you are concerned," she said. "Our food and homes matter. So do tired people who need help. Let us make a plan that protects both."

She invited the villagers, guards, cooks, and travelers to speak one at a time. Some shared worries. Some shared ideas. The travelers offered to repair the washed-out forest path before they left.

"We do not want to be a burden," one traveler said. "We can help because you helped us."

The village grew quiet. The Princess smiled. "That is how kindness becomes strong. It moves in both directions."

## A Plan for Peace

Together, the kingdom made a peace plan.

The guards marked a safe path through the forest. The cooks packed extra bread for anyone who arrived hungry. The villagers gathered blankets they could spare. The travelers fixed the muddy road with stones, branches, and careful hands.

"I worried there would not be enough," said the baker.

"I worried we would not be welcome," said a traveler.

"Now we know what to do," said the Princess. "When we are honest about our worries, we can solve them together."

By sunset, the repaired path was safe again. The villagers and travelers shared supper in the square, and the castle bells rang not for danger, but for welcome.

## The Grateful Travelers

The next morning, some travelers continued along the road. Others asked if they might stay a little longer and help in the kingdom.

"There is work for willing hands," said the Princess. "And there is room for kind hearts."

The travelers shared new songs, recipes, and stories from faraway places. The villagers taught them where the berries grew sweetest and how to mend the castle garden wall.

Children loved hearing about mountains they had never seen. The travelers loved learning the games played in the castle gardens.

"You were brave," one child told the Princess. "You helped even when people were worried."

"Bravery is not only for battles," the Princess said. "Sometimes it is listening. Sometimes it is opening a door. Sometimes it is helping people understand each other."

That night, the Princess placed a lantern by the gate. Its warm light reached the repaired road, the village square, and the castle steps.

The youngest traveler looked back before leaving.

"Will the lantern stay?" she asked.

"When the road is hard to see," said the Princess, "yes."

The baker added a loaf of bread to the travel basket. The traveler gave him a new recipe for spiced soup. The guards waved from the forest path until the group was safely on its way.

The lantern glowed behind them, small and steady.
