## Introducing the Circus Animal Friends

The circus field smelled of sawdust, rain, and warm popcorn. Ellie the elephant, Jack the monkey, Charlie the horse, and Gilda the giraffe stood with their keepers beside the small practice tent.

The animals knew the afternoon show was meant to be gentle and bright. Ellie would carry a basket of paper flowers. Charlie would walk in a slow circle with ribbons on his saddle. Jack would tap a tiny drum from his perch while Gilda bowed her long neck.

Ringmaster Mina walked from group to group with her clipboard. "We will check every rope and mat before anyone performs," she said. "A safe show is the best show."

## The Missing Clipboard

Just before rehearsal, Mina patted her coat pocket and frowned.

"My schedule is gone," she said. "It has the order of the acts and the notes from the safety walk."

The keepers looked under benches. The clowns checked the costume trunk. The stage crew searched beside the music stand. No one found the clipboard.

Ellie lifted her trunk and pointed toward the practice tent. One corner of the canvas had sagged during the storm. A few leaves and papers had blown inside.

"Good noticing, Ellie," said Mina. "We will look together, slowly."

## Searching Carefully

The circus friends did not rush. Jack stayed on his keeper's shoulder and tapped whenever he saw a loose paper. Charlie waited outside the tent so the walkway stayed clear. Gilda looked over the low partitions without stepping across them.

Ellie found a ribbon tangled around a tent peg. Gilda spotted two damp pages under a stool. Jack noticed a corner of cardboard behind a stack of folded mats.

Mina knelt and pulled out the clipboard. The top page was wrinkled but readable.

"Here it is," she said. "And you found something else too. This tent needs a little more checking before we use it."

## A Better Plan

Showtime was getting close, but Mina did not hurry the animals into place.

"We can move the first act to the open ring," she told the crew. "The practice tent can wait until it is dry and tidy."

The clowns carried benches to the main ring. The musicians shifted their chairs. Charlie's keeper brushed mud from the walkway. Ellie held still while her paper-flower basket was checked.

The animals watched calmly. Everyone had a job, and no one had to do more than they safely could.

## The Show Begins

When the guests entered, the main ring looked fresh and cheerful.

Mina stepped forward with her found clipboard. "Welcome," she called. "Today our circus friends helped us make a careful plan."

Ellie walked in first, placing paper flowers into baskets held by the clowns. Charlie followed with ribbons fluttering from his saddle. Jack tapped a soft rhythm on his drum. Gilda bowed, and the children clapped in time.

The show felt easy because everyone had listened to the problem before trying to solve it.

## Celebrating Together

After the final bow, Mina gave each animal a favorite treat and thanked every keeper and crew member.

"Ellie noticed the tent," Mina said. "Jack found the clipboard. Gilda spotted the papers. Charlie kept the path clear. That helped all of us."

The animals settled into the quiet shade behind the big top. The storm had changed the day, but it had not spoiled it.

The circus friends had made something better by paying attention, waiting their turn, and working together.
