## Story

## Leo's Worry

Leo was one of the lion caretakers at the circus.

He knew each lion's habits: Mira liked quiet mornings, Sol liked the blue tug toy, and Nara refused breakfast if her water bowl was too close to the gate.

One day, a latch jammed during feeding time. Sol startled. Leo stepped back quickly, and no one was hurt, but his hands shook afterward.

The next morning, Leo could not make himself open the feed room door.

## Friends Notice

Mara, the lead caretaker, found him sitting beside the supply shelf.

"Still thinking about the latch?" she asked.

Leo nodded. "I know what to do, but my body feels nervous."

"Then we listen to your body and improve the routine," Mara said.

They checked every latch. They added a second person for feeding. They marked the sticky gate with red tape until the carpenter replaced it.

"Worry gave us information," Mara said. "Now we use it."

## Small Practice

Leo did not return to feeding by himself.

First, he stood outside the feed room while Mara prepared the bowls.

The next day, he carried one empty bowl.

The day after that, he carried a full bowl while Mara opened the gate system.

When his hands shook, he said so.

"Pause," Mara said each time.

The lions waited behind their safety barrier, calm and watchful.

## Team Encouragement

Leo's friends helped in their own ways.

Sam fixed the squeaky hinge. Pip the clown painted the new checklist in big letters. The elephant team lent Leo their saying from parade practice:

"Slow is smooth. Smooth is safe."

Leo repeated it while he checked the latch.

Slow is smooth.

Smooth is safe.

## Facing the Routine

Two weeks later, Leo helped with the whole feeding routine.

Mara stood beside him. The new latch clicked cleanly. Mira, Sol, and Nara moved calmly to their bowls.

Leo breathed out.

"I was still nervous," he said.

"And you still followed the plan," Mara said.

## Prepared and Honest

That afternoon, the team gathered by the supply shelf.

Pip had painted one more sign:

Brave Can Mean Careful

Leo hung it above the feed chart.

He was not fearless. He was prepared, supported, and honest when something felt wrong.

That was the kind of confidence he trusted.
