## Story

## Sophie's Love for the Trapeze

Sophie loved the trapeze most during morning practice.

The tent was quiet then. The mats were fresh. Her coach checked every clip and rope before anyone went up.

Sophie had trained for years, but she still began each day with simple swings.

"Basics keep us safe," her coach said.

Sophie believed him.

## Max's Big Moment

Max was new to the circus school.

His first routine used the low trapeze, set a little above the mats. He had practiced it many times, but show day made his hands tremble.

"I think I forgot everything," Max whispered.

Sophie sat beside him. "Show me the first move."

Max held the bar and tucked his knees.

"There," Sophie said. "You remembered the beginning."

## Sophie Helps Max

Sophie did not teach Max a harder trick.

She helped him make the routine smaller.

"One swing, one tuck, one bow," she said. "If you feel steady, add the turn. If not, the short routine is still a routine."

Max breathed in, then out.

"What if people expect more?"

"People can expect," Sophie said. "You can choose safely."

They practiced the short routine three times. Each time, Max's shoulders dropped a little.

## The Circle Before the Show

Before the show, the performers gathered in a small circle.

"What do you need?" the coach asked.

"Quiet while I go up," Max said.

"A thumbs-up from the mat," Sophie said.

"Water after my act," said another performer.

Everyone nodded. Support sounded different for each person.

## A Stronger Team

Max chose the short routine.

One swing.

One tuck.

One bow.

The audience clapped warmly. Max stepped down onto the mat and grinned.

"I did the short one," he told Sophie.

"You did the right one," she said.

## The Circus Family

Afterward, Sophie and Max helped roll the mats.

"Will I ever do the turn in a show?" Max asked.

"Probably," Sophie said. "When it feels practiced instead of rushed."

Max nodded. "Will you watch?"

"From the mat," Sophie said.

That made Max smile, because he knew exactly what kind of support he needed next.
