## Story

## The Circus Clowns

In a bright circus tent at the edge of town, the clowns practiced every afternoon.

Sparkles could make a hat fold into a flower. Jingles could juggle five beanbags while sneezing on purpose. Bubbles could trip over a painted line and somehow land in a bow.

They knew every corner of the tent: the costume trunk that squeaked, the blue curtain that jammed, and the spot where the floorboards made a funny honk.

"We always practice here," Sparkles said one day, looking toward the open tent flap.

Outside, the city hummed with bicycle bells, bus brakes, music, and voices.

"Maybe there are new laughs out there," Sparkles said.

## Sparkles' Big Idea

Sparkles spread a paper map across a drum.

"What if we visit the city before tonight's show?" he asked. "We can listen, watch, learn, and come back with one new bit for the audience."

Jingles bounced on his heels. "I want to hear the park musicians."

Bubbles hugged her polka-dot bag. "What if we forget the way?"

"Then we plan," Sparkles said.

They packed water, snacks, a whistle, and a tiny notebook. They marked the path from the circus tent to the park, the library steps, the mural wall, and back again.

"We stay together," Sparkles said.

"We ask before joining games," said Bubbles.

"And we return before the supper bell," said Jingles, because he never missed supper.

## Exploring the City

The city was louder than the circus tent, but not in a bad way.

At the park, two musicians played a quick, bright tune. Jingles tried to juggle to the beat. Toss, toss, catch. Toss, toss, drop.

"The beat changed," he said, picking up the beanbag.

One musician laughed kindly and tapped the rhythm again. Jingles listened before tossing the next beanbag. This time he kept all three in the air.

At the mural wall, Bubbles watched a painter roll yellow across a brick sun.

"Your colors are brave," Bubbles said.

"Colors like company," the painter replied. She handed Bubbles a clean brush and pointed to a small blank star near the corner. "Want to help?"

Bubbles asked twice to be sure. Then she painted one careful blue star.

## Nighttime Adventures

By late afternoon, the streetlights blinked on one by one.

"Supper bell soon," Jingles said.

Sparkles checked the map. "One more stop. The library steps are on the way back."

On the wide stone steps, a group of children were making hand puppets against the glowing windows.

"May we watch?" Sparkles asked.

"Yes," said a child with a paper bird.

Sparkles made his hands into a floppy-eared rabbit. Bubbles made a lumpy turtle. Jingles tried to make a dragon, but it looked more like a potato with wings.

Everyone laughed, including Jingles.

"Potato dragon," he said proudly. "Rare."

## Tired But Happy

The sky turned purple as the clowns followed the map back to the circus.

Bubbles' shoes were dusty. Jingles' arms were tired from juggling. Sparkles had filled three notebook pages with ideas.

"My favorite part was the blue star," Bubbles said.

"Mine was the potato dragon," said Jingles.

"Mine was Bubbles asking before she painted," Sparkles said. "That made the painter smile."

At the tent, the supper bell rang as they stepped inside.

"Perfect timing," Jingles said, and bowed to the soup pot.

## The New Act

That night, the clowns tried their new act.

Jingles juggled to a changing rhythm. Bubbles painted a pretend star in the air, then tripped into a perfect bow. Sparkles made a rabbit shape, a turtle shape, and finally the rare potato dragon.

The children in the audience laughed so loudly that the blue curtain shook.

After the show, Bubbles looked toward the city lights beyond the tent flap.

"We can go again someday," she said.

"With a map," said Jingles.

"And snacks," said Sparkles.

The clowns laughed, already wondering what new sound, color, or silly idea might be waiting outside the tent.
