## Story

## Animal Friends in the Circus

In a busy circus tent lived four animal friends who loved the sound of applause.

Leo the lion had a roar that could shake the sawdust. Ellie the elephant could balance hoops on her trunk. Gigi the giraffe could reach the highest ribbons in the tent. Mikey the monkey could swing from rope to rope as if the air had handles.

They were friends, but rehearsals often turned into arguments.

"My roar should begin the show," Leo said.

"Only if my balancing act comes right after," Ellie replied.

"You both need my ribbons," Gigi said, stretching her neck proudly.

"And my flips," Mikey added from the rafters.

Mr. Lester, the circus owner, stepped into the tent holding a stack of yellow flyers.

"Good news," he said. "You four will headline the Fairville show."

The friends cheered. Then they looked at one another.

"Headline?" Mikey said. "That means we need our strongest act."

## The Special Show Announcement

Fairville was the biggest show of the year. Families came from farms, shops, and nearby villages to fill every bench under the tent.

The four friends tried to plan a routine, but each idea left someone out.

"I can stand on the drum and roar," Leo said.

"Where do I go?" Ellie asked.

"I can hang ribbons," Gigi said.

"While I do what?" Mikey asked.

The tent went quiet.

"What if," Mikey said slowly, "we stop making four small acts and make one big one?"

Leo tilted his mane. "How?"

"Ellie lifts. Gigi reaches. I swing. You roar at the grand finish."

Ellie's ears lifted. "And we all get a moment."

"Exactly," Mikey said. "One act. Four talents."

## One Act, Four Talents

The next rehearsal began with listening.

Ellie rolled a platform into the center ring. "I can lift Mikey's rope higher," she said, "but I need Leo to warn me before he roars. The sound startles me."

"I can roar after Mikey lands," Leo said. "Not before."

Gigi lowered a ribbon with her long neck. "If I hang these from the top pole, Mikey can swing through them like a rainbow."

Mikey tested the rope, then nodded. "Perfect height."

They practiced the new act again and again. Sometimes Leo roared too soon. Sometimes Mikey missed a ribbon. Once, Ellie lifted the platform before Gigi had finished tying the knot.

"Stop," Gigi called.

Ellie set the platform down at once. "Thank you for telling me."

"Thank you for listening," Gigi said.

## Show Day

By show day, their act felt like a song they all knew by heart.

The audience packed the tent. Leo heard children whispering his name. Ellie smelled popcorn. Mikey bounced on his toes. Gigi checked every knot one last time.

"Ready?" Leo asked.

"Ready together," Ellie said.

The music began.

Ellie lifted the platform slowly and steadily. Gigi lowered the ribbons at the right moment. Mikey flew through them, flipped, and landed on Ellie's broad back. Then Leo stepped forward and gave one mighty roar that rolled through the tent like thunder.

The audience jumped to its feet.

## Breathless Backstage

Backstage, the four friends stood in a happy, breathless circle.

"That roar needed your lift," Leo told Ellie.

"And my lift needed Gigi's ribbons," Ellie said.

"And the ribbons needed Mikey's swing," Gigi added.

"And my swing needed all of you," Mikey said.

Mr. Lester peeked through the curtain. "Fairville wants an encore."

The friends grinned. This time, nobody asked who would be the star. They lined up shoulder to shoulder, ready to make one big act shine.
