# The Circus of Colors

_Acceptance and Individuality Under the Big Top_

Niko comes from a family of trapeze artists, but he would rather design costumes than fly through the air. When his family prepares for a big show, Niko helps them see that color, care, and creativity can be as important to the circus as the highest leap.

## Story

## The Trapeze Family

Niko's family lived high above the sawdust. His mother flew from the trapeze with silver shoes flashing. His father caught her by the wrists. His older cousins twisted through the air like bright ribbons.

"Your turn soon," his cousin Lina said one morning.

Niko looked up at the swinging bar. His hands felt cold.

"Maybe," he said.

What Niko loved most was not flying. He loved the costume tent, where buttons clicked in jars, ribbons hung in rows, and cloth could change the feeling of a whole act.

## The Costume Designer

That afternoon, Niko spread sketches across a trunk.

"I drew new costumes for the moonlight act," he said. "Mama's cape could be bright blue. Papa's cuffs could have silver stars. Lina's sleeves could look like comets when she spins."

His father studied the page. "They are beautiful, Niko, but the trapeze act needs practice."

"I have been practicing," Niko said. "Just not on the bar."

The tent grew quiet.

His mother sat beside him. "Do you want to perform?"

Niko took a breath. "I want to help the performance. I do not want to be in the air."

## A Different Talent

For a few days, the family did not know what to do with Niko's answer. They loved the trapeze so much that they had assumed he would love it in the same way.

Then a problem arrived.

During rehearsal, the moonlight act looked flat. The tricks were strong, but under the pale stage lamps, every costume faded into gray.

"The audience will not see the turns clearly," Lina said.

Niko lifted one of his sketches. "They would with comet sleeves."

His father looked from the dim stage to the drawing. "Can you make them by Friday?"

Niko smiled. "If everyone helps cut stars."

## The Costume Tent

The costume tent became as busy as the practice ring.

Niko measured cuffs. Lina sorted sequins. His father discovered that pinning fabric was harder than catching a flyer. His mother stitched tiny stars along the edge of her cape.

"I did not know costumes had so much engineering," his father said, rubbing his thumb after pricking it.

"They have to move safely," Niko said. "Pretty is not enough."

His mother nodded. "Just like trapeze."

Niko liked the sound of that.

## The Circus Celebration

On show night, the moonlight act began in a circle of blue light.

Niko watched from the side curtain, holding a spare needle and thread in case anything came loose.

His mother stepped forward. Her cape opened like the night sky. His father swung down, silver cuffs flashing so the audience could follow every strong catch. Lina spun, and her comet sleeves made a glowing circle above the ring.

The crowd gasped.

"They can see it," Niko whispered.

At the final catch, the whole tent filled with applause.

## The Circus Family

After the show, Niko's family pulled him into the ring.

"Bow with us," Lina said.

Niko shook his head at first. Then he saw his father touch one silver cuff with pride.

Niko stepped into the light and bowed.

The applause felt different from flying, but it still felt like belonging.

Later, his father hung Niko's sketches beside the trapeze schedule.

"Tomorrow," he said, "we practice catches at ten and costume fittings at two."

Niko grinned. In his family, there was still room for flying. Now there was room for color too.
