## Story

## The Juggler's Mistake

Joe loved juggling under the circus lights.

One night, he tossed three bright balls into the air.

Red. Blue. Yellow.

The red ball slipped from his hand and bounced across the ring.

Joe finished the act, bowed quickly, and hurried backstage.

"I dropped it," he said, sitting on a trunk. "Everyone saw."

Max the clown sat beside him. "I saw. I also saw you finish."

Joe stared at the floor. "It still felt awful."

## Advice From a Friend

Max handed Joe one soft beanbag.

"When clowns trip, we check the floor and try again," Max said. "What do jugglers do?"

"Pick up the ball," Joe said.

"Good start."

Joe picked up the beanbag. He did not juggle three. He tossed one.

Toss. Catch.

His shoulders loosened a little.

## Painting the Pattern

The next morning, Joe found Max painting spots on a prop box.

"Want to paint your juggling pattern?" Max asked.

Joe painted three arcs: red, blue, yellow. He saw where the red ball had gone too low.

"My hand rushed," Joe said.

"Then your hand knows what to practice," Max said.

## A Game of Catch

They practiced with a simple game.

Max tossed one beanbag to Joe.

Joe tossed it back.

Then two.

Then three, slowly.

When a beanbag dropped, Max said, "That tells us something."

Joe laughed and picked it up.

## Joe Regains His Confidence

At the next show, Joe began with one ball.

Then two.

Then three.

The red ball dipped low, but Joe slowed his hands and caught it.

He did not add harder tricks. He added a smile.

## The Big Finale

For the ending, Joe tossed the red ball to Max.

Max caught it in his hat by accident, bowed as if he had planned it, and handed it back.

The audience laughed.

Joe bowed too. He still wanted to improve, but he no longer needed a perfect show to feel like a real juggler.

He had picked up the ball.
