# The Jungle Circus Teamwork

_Ellie and Friends Learn to Listen_

Ellie the elephant loves the jungle circus, but she keeps telling the other performers what to do. When rehearsals become messy and tense, Ollie the owl helps the animals notice each other's strengths. Soon Ellie, Joe, Molly, and their friends learn that the best show is one they build together.

## Story

## The Jungle Circus

In the heart of a green jungle stood a bright striped circus tent. At sunset, lanterns glowed between the trees, drums began to tap, and children hurried to their seats.

Ellie the elephant was one of the strongest performers in the troupe. Joe the zebra could run faster than falling rain. Molly the monkey could swing through hoops without missing a branch.

"Move the hoop higher," Ellie told Molly during rehearsal. "Joe, run on my count. Everyone, watch me."

Joe slowed to a stop. Molly wrapped her tail around a rope and frowned.

"Ellie," Joe said carefully, "it is hard to do my best when I only hear what I am doing wrong."

"I am only trying to make the show perfect," Ellie said.

"Perfect is hard to reach by yourself," said a calm voice from above.

## A Wise Idea

Ollie the owl blinked from a high bamboo pole. He had watched the rehearsal from the rafters.

"Try an exchange," Ollie suggested. "Each performer teaches one skill. Each performer learns one skill. Then you will know what everyone needs."

Ellie lifted her trunk. "I can teach strength."

"And I can teach speed," Joe said.

"I can teach balance," Molly added, swinging down beside them.

For the first time all afternoon, nobody argued.

## Practice Together

The next morning, Joe drew a straight line in the dust.

"I do more than run fast," he said. "I look where I want to go. Then I keep my hooves steady."

Ellie tried a slow trot. Her big feet thumped in a careful rhythm.

"That is harder than it looks," she admitted.

Molly taught them next. "I do not grab the branch at the last second," she explained. "I reach before I leap."

Joe tried the low practice rope and wobbled. Molly steadied him with one gentle hand.

"Thanks," Joe said, laughing. "My stripes were almost upside down."

When it was Ellie's turn, she showed them how to lift without rushing. "Strong does not mean rough," she said. "First I check that everyone is ready."

Molly smiled. "I like that rule."

Ellie lowered her ears. "I should have used it sooner."

## A Magical Practice

For the rest of the week, rehearsal sounded different.

"Ready, Joe?" Ellie asked before lifting the hoop.

"Ready," Joe called.

"Molly, branch three after the drumbeat," Joe reminded her.

"I hear it," Molly said. "Thank you."

They still made mistakes. A coconut rolled into the wrong place. A ribbon tangled around Ellie's ankle. Joe started too early and had to circle back.

But now the mistakes did not turn into arguments. They turned into questions.

"What do you need?" Ellie asked.

"One more beat before you lift," Molly said.

"Then I will wait," Ellie promised.

Ollie watched from above and gave one pleased hoot.

## Show Night

On the night of the show, the jungle tent filled with whispers, giggles, and the smell of sweet popcorn. Ellie peeked through the curtain and felt her stomach flutter.

"I am nervous," she said.

"Good," Joe said. "That means you care."

"And you have us with you," Molly added.

The drums began. The curtain rose.

## A Magical Performance

Joe raced into the ring, quick and steady. Ellie lifted a golden hoop while Molly swung through it, her tail curling like a ribbon. Pogo the gorilla juggled coconuts beside them, tossing one to Molly, who flipped it to Joe, who nudged it onto Ellie's waiting trunk.

The crowd gasped, then cheered.

Halfway through the act, a trapeze rope slipped lower than planned. Molly saw it first.

"Ellie, hold the hoop steady," she called.

"Joe, circle left," Ellie said.

Joe changed direction, drawing every eye across the ring. Ellie lifted the hoop higher, giving Molly enough room to swing safely to the platform.

Nobody in the audience knew it was a rescue. They thought it was part of the act.

When the final drumbeat sounded, every performer bowed together.

## After the Applause

Backstage, Ellie touched her trunk gently to Joe's shoulder and Molly's hand.

"I used to think being strong meant leading every move," she said. "Tonight I learned it can mean listening."

"You listened beautifully," Molly said.

"And you held that hoop like a mountain," Joe added.

Ollie landed beside them. "A team is not one loud voice," he said. "It is many voices making one brave choice."

Outside, the audience was still cheering. Inside, the animals were already planning tomorrow's rehearsal, this time with everyone gathered close enough to be heard.
