## Story

## Saying Goodbye to a Small Town

Sammy loved to play outside and explore the woods behind his house. He spent most afternoons with his older sister Abby, running through the fields, climbing trees, and watching bugs crawl over fallen logs.

One day, Sammy's parents sat him down for an important talk. They told him that they were moving to the big city so that they could be closer to their jobs. At first, Sammy did not understand what that meant or how it would change things for him.

Then Sammy realized how much would change. He would not have the same wide fields to run through, the same favorite tree to sit under, or the same path to the river. Worst of all, he would have to start a new school.

Sammy had never made friends quickly. He needed time to feel comfortable, and other kids needed time to know him too. When he thought about walking into a classroom where nobody knew his name, his stomach felt tight and fluttery.

He tried talking to Abby about it, but she seemed excited about the move. Her eyes sparkled at the idea of exploring new places and meeting new people. Sammy could not shake one worried thought: what if everyone else already had friends?

As they packed their belongings into boxes, Sammy felt heavy-hearted saying goodbye to everything familiar: the old oak tree by the riverbank, the bakery owner who gave them free cookies on Saturdays, and the porch steps where he and Abby had planned so many games.

The city still felt far too big, but Abby squeezed his shoulder and promised they would explore it together.

## Sisterly Love

Sammy was nervous about starting school in the big city. He had never been to a big school before, and he did not know anyone there. His sister Abby noticed how worried he was and decided to help him adjust.

Abby took Sammy on walks around their neighborhood and showed him the fun things they could do together. She pointed out the corner shop, the library, and a park with bright swings. She introduced him to some of her friends from school, too.

At first, Sammy stayed close to Abby. Then one of her friends handed him a piece of chalk and asked if he wanted to draw a hopscotch board.

They played hopscotch on the sidewalk, picked flowers in a nearby park, and even went for ice cream at a local shop. Abby's friends made sure Sammy felt included in everything they did.

"Wow," said Sammy one day after an afternoon out with Abby's friends. "I am glad you are my big sister."

"I am always going to be here for you," Abby replied.

With help from his loving older sister and new friends, Sammy began feeling more confident about starting school in this new place.

## Sammy's New Friends

Sammy felt nervous as he walked around the big city with Abby. Everything seemed different from what he was used to in their small town. The buildings were taller, the streets were busier, and there were people everywhere.

When Abby introduced him to her friends from school, Sammy felt even more uncomfortable. Some of them used words he did not know yet, and some played games he had never seen before.

Then one child rolled a ball toward Sammy. Another waved him into the game. Sammy kicked the ball back, and soon they were all running across the park together.

Sammy soon realized that his new friends were easier to know than he had expected. They laughed and played the way he did. Together they chased each other through the park and pretended to be superheroes saving the day.

As time went on, Sammy began to feel more comfortable with his new friends. He learned a few words in their language and taught them some of his own games too.

Before long, Sammy could not imagine the city without his new friends beside him.

## Sammy Tries on His Own

With Abby's help, Sammy was starting to feel more comfortable in his new school. Abby would introduce him to her friends and they would all play together at recess. Sammy loved learning games that he had never played before, like four square and hopscotch.

One day, when Abby was sick and could not come to school with him, Sammy decided to try making friends on his own. He noticed a boy sitting by himself on the playground and went over to say hello.

The boy's name was Alex and he seemed shy at first, but Sammy stayed friendly. He suggested they play tag together, and soon enough they were both laughing as they chased each other around the playground.

Sammy started feeling more confident about approaching new people. He began talking with kids in his class he had not spoken to before and found out that many of them shared similar interests with him.

Sammy realized that he could make a friend on his own. It had felt hard at first, but saying hello had opened the day.

After that, every day at school felt a little more open to Sammy. He learned something new from the people around him, whether it was a funny joke, a cool game, or the best place to sit during story time.

City life was still not always easy, but Sammy knew he did not have to figure it out by himself. Abby had helped him take the first steps, and now Sammy could take a few more on his own.

## A New Park Game

Sammy had never thought that he would be happy in the big city. Everything was so different from his small town, and he missed his old friends terribly. As time passed, he started to realize that there were so many things to love about this new place.

One day, Abby took him on a walk around the park near their house. They saw kids of all ages running around and playing games together. Sammy felt a little shy at first but then decided to join in on a game of tag with some other kids.

He soon found out that they were a lot like him. They loved playing games, exploring the park paths, and telling silly jokes. He enjoyed spending time with them so much that hours seemed to fly by.

As they walked back home together, Sammy thought about how different the day had felt from his first week in the city. The park still bustled, the streets were still busy, and school was still new, but now he could picture friendly faces waiting there.

That night, Sammy still missed the old oak tree and the quiet fields. But when he thought about school the next morning, he also thought about Alex, the park game, and Abby walking beside him.

The city no longer felt like one giant unknown place. It felt like a place with paths Sammy was learning, one brave hello at a time.
