## Story

In a beautiful green valley nestled between friendly mountains lived Tommy, a curious boy who loved exploring with his dozen animal pals. Though brave in many ways, Tommy had one big worry: he could not swim yet, and the sparkling pond in the valley made him nervous.

One sunny morning, Tommy sat at the pond's edge while his friends, Rabbit, Deer, Fox, and the others, played in the cool water. He wanted to join them but kept making excuses about being too busy collecting stones or studying clouds.

"The water looks wide," Tommy whispered to his closest friend, Oliver the Owl, who perched nearby. "What if I need help?"

That afternoon, Tommy's friends planned a picnic on the other side of the pond, but the bridge was closed for repairs. Everyone else could swim across with Grandpa Bear watching, but Tommy had to walk the long way around, arriving late and missing half the fun. Seeing Tommy's disappointment, wise old Grandpa Bear approached him under the shade of a maple tree.

"You know, young explorer," he said gently, "I was once nervous about learning tree skills."

Over the next few weeks, Grandpa Bear and Tommy's dozen friends helped him learn about water in the shallow practice area. They showed him how leaves float, how fish glide effortlessly, and how even heavy rocks can skip across the surface.

"Start small," said Diana the Duck, demonstrating how to paddle in the shallow end. "Trust yourself," added Felix the Frog, showing how to float.

Then came the day of the treasure hunt. The final clue led to a small island in the shallow part of the pond, with Grandpa Bear standing nearby. Tommy stood at the edge, his heart pounding.

"We believe in you," his friends called encouragingly. Tommy nodded and stepped into the water. Using everything he had learned, he began to swim: awkwardly at first, then with growing confidence.

When he reached the island, his friends cheered. Tommy felt different: stronger, braver, proud. He had faced his worry and discovered a whole new world of fun.

The next day, a new animal arrived in the valley: Marina the River Otter. She was looking for swimming friends, and Tommy was the first to volunteer.

"Welcome to our dozen pals," he said with a confident smile. "Let me show you my favorite shallow swimming spots."
