Her wand slipped from her hand and dropped into a thick patch of green. Lily landed beside the ferns and searched carefully. She lifted leaves, checked the path, and called for her friends, but the wand did not appear. "I feel worried," she said. Her friend Pip the squirrel sat beside her. "Then we will make a plan before we rush." Lily nodded. Pip checked under roots. Mira looked beside smooth stones. Lily floated low above the leaves, watching for a silver glimmer. At a fork in the path, they found glitter on a mushroom cap. "Slow steps help us find the way back," he said. So Lily slowed down. The search felt longer, but it also felt safer. ## The Secret Location The mossy cave was not gloomy. There, half tucked beneath a soft moss cushion, was the end of Lily's wand. It had rolled into the cave and stopped where the moss caught it. Lily reached for it, then paused. "The moss is part of the beetles' home. How can I lift the wand without pulling it apart?" The fairies brought two reed stems. Pip held the moss gently back. Lily slid the wand free. ## Reunited at Last Lily held her wand close, then checked the moss.
