## Story

High above the world, where birds rarely flew and rainbows were born, Fairy Godmother Celeste's cloud castle gleamed white as fresh snow.

Or at least, it usually did.

This morning, Celeste paused while watering her rainbow fountain.

The clouds around her had turned gray, like old dishwater.

The castle's cheerful hum had vanished.

Then she heard it: soft, aching crying.

Celeste's wings drooped.

She had spent centuries solving other people's problems, always rushing off to distant kingdoms.

But she had never heard such an aching sound in her own home.

She followed the sobs through gloomy corridors to the castle gardens, where cloud flowers hung their petals low.

Behind a thick pillar of mist sat a tiny star, no bigger than her thumb.

Celeste knelt down.

"Oh, my dear," Celeste said. "What is wrong?"

The little star looked up with tear-tracks sparkling on her points.

"I am Twinkle," said the little star.

Tonight is the Moon's Grand Celebration, and every star received an invitation.

Every star except me.

Celeste's chest tightened.

Someone needed help right here in her castle, someone Celeste had never even noticed before.

The thought made her uncomfortable.

"There must be a mistake. Let me investigate."

In her tower room, Celeste waved her wand over her magic mirror.

The surface rippled, showing the Moon's palace glowing silver-bright.

The Moon bustled about, hanging stardust streamers and arranging constellation cookies.

Celeste counted carefully.

One invitation, two, three, four, five.

She counted every star she knew.

No invitation for Twinkle.

"Why would the Moon leave out such a sweet star?" Celeste wondered.

She studied Twinkle in a smaller mirror.

The star was quite small.

Her light was not as bright as the North Star or as colorful as the Evening Star.

A thought arrived before Celeste could stop it: *Perhaps Twinkle is not special enough.*

She shook her head, ashamed.

But maybe if Twinkle were bigger and brighter, she would fit in better.

"Come with me, dear."

In the grand hall, Celeste raised her wand high.

Sparkles swirled around Twinkle, stretching her points longer and pouring light into her until she blazed like a miniature sun.

"There," Celeste said. "Now you will shine beautifully."

But Twinkle's glow dimmed.

Her light turned cloudy blue.

"I do not want to be someone else," Twinkle said.

If I have to change everything to be included, then maybe I do not belong anywhere.

The words struck Celeste like ice water.

She had tried to fix what she thought was wrong instead of truly listening.

She had chosen the easy way, magic, instead of the right way, understanding.

Her wand slipped from her fingers.

"Oh, Twinkle," Celeste said. "I am so sorry. You are right."

Celeste sat beside the small star, not as a fairy godmother with answers, but as someone who had made a mistake.

They sat quietly together.

Sometimes being there mattered more than having solutions.

The garden clouds shifted in the breeze.

A corner of white peeked out from between two fluffy clouds right where Twinkle usually sat.

Celeste reached over carefully and pulled out a small envelope with the Moon's silver stamp.

The name read: *Twinkle Star*.

"Your invitation," Celeste said. "It slipped between the clouds."

Twinkle's light flickered with hope, then pain.

"But I have been sitting here every day," Twinkle said, "and nobody came to find me."

Celeste's throat tightened.

How many times had she passed through this garden, always hurrying to help someone else, somewhere else?

"You are right," Celeste said. "I should have noticed you felt left out. That is not the kind of friend I want to be."

She took Twinkle's tiny point gently.

"The Moon did not mean to lose your invitation, and I did not mean to ignore you. But that does not make it hurt less, does it?"

Twinkle shook her head.

"Real kindness is not about big magic or quick fixes," Celeste said. "It is about noticing when someone is hurting and accepting them exactly as they are."

The clouds brightened from gray to pearl to brilliant white.

The fountain bubbled again, and flowers lifted their petals skyward.

"Will you let me escort you to the party as your friend?"

Twinkle's natural glow returned, small, steady, and uniquely her own.

"I would like that," Twinkle said.

Stars of every size and color danced at the Moon's celebration.

When Celeste and Twinkle arrived, the Moon rushed over.

"Twinkle," the Moon said. "I have been so worried."

Your invitation must have gone astray.

"I am terribly sorry."

Other stars surrounded her.

"We missed you," called one star.

"The party is not complete without everyone," called another.

Twinkle glowed brighter from pure happiness.

Her small, steady light mixed with the others, creating something more beautiful than any could make by itself.

Celeste watched, her heart full.

She had been so busy being everyone's fairy godmother that she had forgotten to notice those right around her.

True kindness meant paying attention and making sure everyone knew they mattered.

As Twinkle danced, her small light made the whole party shine brighter than ever.
