# Sammy's Great Escape

_A Farm Adventure of Two Careful Kids Who Helped Their Sheep_

## Story

## Welcome to the Farm

Samantha and Max loved visiting Grandma and Grandpa's farm. They fed carrots to the goats, watched chickens scratch in the yard, and waved to Sammy the sheep.

Sammy was round, woolly, and gentle. He liked standing near the fence where the children could talk to him.

"Hello, Sammy," Samantha said.

"Baa," Sammy answered.

Grandpa handed the children their farm boots. "Remember today's rule. Old sheds are grown-up places."

"Look from outside," Max said.

"Call you if we need help," Samantha added.

## The Sound in the Shed

After lunch, the children walked past the old shed. The door was open a crack.

"Baa."

Samantha stopped. "That sounds like Sammy."

Max took one step toward the door, then stopped too. Inside, they could see tools, a wheelbarrow, and a stack of heavy boards.

"We need Grandpa," Max said.

Samantha called across the yard. "Grandpa, Sammy might be in the shed."

Grandpa came quickly, carrying a flashlight.

## Grandpa's Plan

Grandpa looked inside before anyone entered. Sammy was standing behind the wheelbarrow, nervous but not hurt.

"Good job waiting," Grandpa said. "Heavy things can shift."

Grandma brought a small bucket of feed. Samantha held the gate open from outside the shed. Max stood beside Grandma and spoke softly.

"This way, Sammy," Max said.

Grandpa moved one light board, then stepped back. Grandma shook the feed bucket gently.

Sammy sniffed the air. He took one careful step, then another.

## Sammy Comes Out

Sammy walked out of the shed and into the open yard. Grandma closed the shed door so no animal could wander inside again.

Samantha let out a long breath. "He is safe."

Max smiled. "And we did not move the heavy things."

"That was the smartest part," Grandpa said.

He checked Sammy from nose to hooves, then led him back to the sheep pen.

Sammy settled near the fence and gave one quiet baa.

"You are welcome," Samantha whispered.

The old shed got a new latch that afternoon. Max helped Grandpa hold the screw box, and Samantha made a sign that said, `Grown-ups only`.
