_A Kind Spring Search with Friends_

It was springtime in the forest, and all the animals were getting ready for their favorite event: The Great Egg Hunt. Bunny, Squirrel, Duck, Hedgehog and other friends had decorated beautiful eggs to hide around the forest. But when little Hedgehog could not find any eggs at all, he started feeling left out of the fun. With help from Bunny and the other animals, Hedgehog learns that sharing the search can be even better than filling one basket.

## Story

## The Great Egg Hunt Begins

Spring sunlight sparkled on the forest grass. Bunny, Squirrel, Duck, Hedgehog, and their friends had painted eggs in stripes, dots, swirls, and tiny flower patterns.

When the bell rang, everyone hurried off to search.

Squirrel found a blue egg in a tree hollow. Duck found a yellow egg beside the pond. Bunny found three eggs under fern leaves.

Hedgehog searched carefully. He looked under mushrooms, behind stones, and beside the old log. He found one feather, two acorns, and a beetle who did not want to be disturbed.

No eggs.

His basket felt empty.

Bunny noticed Hedgehog walking toward home.

"Are you done already?" she asked.

Hedgehog sighed. "I do not think I am good at egg hunts."

## Bunny's Kindness

Bunny sat beside him and opened her basket.

"You can have one of mine," she said.

Hedgehog looked at the painted eggs. "But you found them."

"And I found you looking glum," Bunny said. "Friends notice both."

She placed a green egg with white dots into Hedgehog's basket. It made a soft, happy clink.

Duck waddled over. "What happened?"

When Bunny explained, Duck offered to search near the reeds with Hedgehog. Squirrel offered to check high places and call down hints. Fox, who had been proud of finding four eggs, offered one clue and then another.

Soon Hedgehog had search partners.

## Friendship Is Key

The friends found eggs in places Hedgehog would never have reached by himself.

Squirrel perched on a branch and spotted a purple egg in a birdhouse. Duck stretched her long neck to reach a pink egg floating near the pond edge. Bunny held back a fern while Hedgehog rolled carefully underneath and found a tiny orange egg tucked in the moss.

Then a gust of spring wind swept through the clearing. Several eggs rolled out of baskets and scattered down the path.

For a moment, everyone gasped.

Then Hedgehog called, "Team search."

This time he found the first missing egg, caught safely against his prickles. Everyone laughed, and the hunt became even better. They were not counting who had the most anymore. They were helping each basket become bright again.

At the picnic, Hedgehog looked at his eggs and then at his friends.

"My basket is full," he said. "But the best part was searching together."

Bunny passed him a berry bun. "That is my favorite kind of hunt too."
