## Story

## Lily's Morning Song

Lily loved to sing beside the clear brook near her home. When water slipped over smooth stones, it made a tinkling sound that matched her voice.

The Forest Keeper had given Lily one small job: check the stones each morning and move away leaves that blocked the water.

For three mornings, Lily forgot. She practiced a new dance instead.

On the fourth morning, the brook sounded flat and quiet.

## The Quiet Water

Lily knelt by the stones. Leaves had gathered in a thick little mat, and the water could not move around them.

"I forgot my job," Lily said.

Beside a hollow tree, she found a trail of bright petals arranged like music notes. They led to a mossy stump where the Forest Keeper waited.

"The brook did not need a grand helper," the keeper said gently. "It needed a steady one."

## Repairing the Song

Lily took off her shoes, stepped into the shallow edge, and worked slowly.

She lifted leaves into a basket. She rinsed mud from the smooth stones. She placed each stone where the water could tap, swirl, and ring.

One note returned.

Then another.

Soon the brook began to hum.

## A Song to Remember

Lily wanted a way to remember her promise.

She tapped her knees and sang:

"Stones before dancing,
leaves before play,
care for the brook
at the start of the day."

The words were simple, but they worked. The next morning, Lily sang the song before breakfast and went straight to the water.

## More Small Helpers

Other children heard Lily's tune and joined her by the brook.

One carried the leaf basket. One checked the stepping stones. One watched for tiny seedlings near the bank.

The brook kept singing because many careful hands cared for it.

When Lily danced later, the water danced with her.
