## Story

## Lucy the Ladybug Wakes Up

Lucy the ladybug lived under a wide green leaf beside a patch of bluebells. She had red wings, black dots, and one favorite spot shaped like a tiny heart.

One morning, Lucy stretched her legs and looked over her wings.

"My heart spot is missing," she said.

She checked the leaf where she had slept. She looked near the bluebells. She walked in a careful circle around the stem.

The spot did not appear.

Lucy took a slow breath. "I can ask for help," she decided.

"Excuse me," said Lucy to a passing butterfly. "Have you seen my missing spot?"

The butterfly paused in the air. "I have not seen it, but the ants find small things all the time. You could ask them."

"Thank you," said Lucy, and she followed the neat ant trail across the moss.

## Seeking Help from Other Creatures

The ants were sorting seeds beside a root.

"We can help you look under leaves," said the lead ant. "Small things often slide into quiet corners."

Together, they lifted curled leaves and checked behind pebbles. They found a crumb, a shiny seed, and a feather tip, but not Lucy's heart spot.

"Try the flower garden," said one ant. "The petals catch many tiny things."

Lucy thanked the ants and hurried toward the flowers. Near a yellow daisy, she met a caterpillar measuring a petal with silk thread.

"Could thread help me search?" Lucy asked.

"It can help us mark where we have looked," said Caterpillar.

He tied a thin silk line from flower to flower. Lucy followed it so she would not check the same petal twice.

They did not find the spot, but Lucy felt less muddled.

"Now I know where it is not," she said. "That helps."

## Lucy Visits the Flower Garden

Lucy moved farther into the flower garden. Daisies, roses, and purple lupines swayed in the breeze.

She asked the bees, the beetles, and two ladybugs resting on a leaf.

"We have not seen a heart-shaped spot," said one ladybug, "but you are welcome to rest with us."

Lucy sat in the warm sun and sipped a little nectar. Her missing spot still mattered, but her friends' kindness helped her feel steady.

"A bee mentioned something shiny near the hive path," said a beetle. "Maybe that is your clue."

Lucy thanked everyone and set off again.

## The Beehive Adventure

The beehive hung from a low branch near the sunny edge of the forest.

Lucy stopped at a respectful distance and called, "Hello, bees. May I ask a question?"

A worker bee flew down with pollen on her legs. "Of course."

"I am looking for my heart spot," said Lucy.

The bees checked the wax shelves, the doorway, and the clover stems nearby. Then one bee tapped her feelers together.

"I saw something small and black caught on a web beside the fern corner," she said.

Lucy's wings lifted. "Thank you. I will ask the spider."

## Meeting the Spider

Lucy followed the fern path to a quiet corner where a tiny spider kept a silver web between two stems.

"Excuse me, Spider," Lucy said. "I am looking for a heart-shaped spot. A bee thought it might be near your web."

Spider crawled down carefully and looked at a small black shape resting on one sticky thread.

"Is this it?" Spider asked.

"That is my spot," said Lucy.

Spider loosened the thread and handed the spot back with gentle legs. Lucy placed it on her wing, right where it belonged.

"Thank you for helping," she said.

"Many friends helped," said Spider. "That is how small things are found."

On her way home, Lucy thanked the bees, the beetle, the ladybugs, the caterpillar, the ants, and the butterfly.

The forest still felt big, but now it also felt full of friendly voices she could ask for help.
