"Peep, peep." The friends stepped closer, then stopped. A young bird was tucked near the leaves, blinking in the grass. "We should not crowd the little one," said Deer. "And we should ask Owl," said Fanny. "Owl knows bird families." Sammy nodded. Sammy looked up and spotted two grown birds circling a low branch. "There they are," he whispered. Deer stood near the path so larger animals would slow down. Sammy gathered soft leaves to make the ground around the fern patch quieter. No one tried to pick up the bird. No one shook the branch. Helping meant making space. ## Reuniting with Family After a little while, one parent bird fluttered down to the fern patch. The parent bird hopped close, chirped softly, and led the young bird toward a safe, leafy hollow at the base of the tree. "They found each other," whispered Luna. Soon the second parent joined them. The bird family tucked close together while the forest friends smiled from the path. "We helped by listening," said Sammy.
