## Story

## The Forest Friends Meet a Newcomer

In the heart of the forest, Sammy Squirrel, Fanny Fox, Benny Bunny, Luna Rabbit, and Deer liked to meet near the clearing. They played leaf toss, shared berries, and made sure no one was left out.

One sunny morning, they heard a tiny chirp from the ferns.

"Peep, peep."

The friends stepped closer, then stopped. A young bird was tucked near the leaves, blinking in the grass.

"We should not crowd the little one," said Deer.

"And we should ask Owl," said Fanny. "Owl knows bird families."

Sammy nodded. "Let us help by being careful first."

## The Search for Home

The friends made a quiet circle around the fern patch so no one would step too close.

Benny Bunny stayed near the path to guide anyone around the area. Deer watched from a respectful distance. Fanny went to find Owl.

Owl arrived and listened to the peeping.

"The bird's parents may be nearby," Owl said. "Let us give them room and watch quietly."

Sammy looked up and spotted two grown birds circling a low branch.

"There they are," he whispered.

The forest friends backed away a few more steps.

## Careful Help in the Forest

The grown birds chirped from the branch, and the young bird answered from the ferns.

"They know where the little one is," said Owl.

"What do we do now?" asked Luna.

"We keep the clearing calm," said Owl. "The bird family can do the rest."

Benny guided noisy beetles around the far side of the clearing. Deer stood near the path so larger animals would slow down. Sammy gathered soft leaves to make the ground around the fern patch quieter.

No one tried to pick up the bird. No one shook the branch. Helping meant making space.

## Reuniting with Family

After a little while, one parent bird fluttered down to the fern patch. The young bird peeped louder.

The forest friends held still.

The parent bird hopped close, chirped softly, and led the young bird toward a safe, leafy hollow at the base of the tree.

"They found each other," whispered Luna.

Soon the second parent joined them. The bird family tucked close together while the forest friends smiled from the path.

"We helped by listening," said Sammy.

"And by giving the family room," said Owl.

## A Feast to Celebrate Friendship and Kindness

That evening, the friends gathered under the oak for a small picnic.

They shared berries, nuts, and flower nectar. The bird family sang from a nearby branch, and the young bird's peep sounded stronger.

As they ate, each animal friend told one small part of the day. Owl remembered the careful advice. Benny remembered guiding others around the clearing. Deer remembered how hard it was to stand still when she wanted to rush in.

"Sometimes kindness is quiet," said Fanny.

Everyone nodded.

## A Kinder Forest

After the picnic, the friends made a forest promise.

If a small creature needed help, they would pause first. They would look for family nearby. They would ask someone wise. They would keep the place calm.

By the end of the evening, the friends agreed on what they wanted to remember: listen closely, trust carefully, and help in the way that is truly helpful.
