## Story

## A Beach Adventure

Bear, Rabbit, Cat, and Dog reached the beach after the morning tide.

The sand was smooth. The waves were small. A strip of seaweed curled beside a line of shells.

"Pirate day," said Dog, tying a red scarf around one ear.

"Map first," said Cat. "Real pirates need a map."

Rabbit used a stick to draw one in the damp sand: the tall dune, the tide pool, the driftwood log, and an X beside the rocks.

Bear shaded his eyes. "What is at the X?"

"Only careful pirates find out," said Rabbit.

They agreed on their pirate rules. Dig only shallow scoops. No chasing shore creatures. No taking shells with anyone living inside.

## The Seaweed Monster

The first clue led to a heap of seaweed shaped like a wiggly green monster.

"It has ten arms," Dog said.

"And zero teeth," said Cat, poking it gently with a stick.

Rabbit laughed. "Maybe it is guarding treasure."

They lifted the seaweed with two sticks and found a blue bottle cap underneath.

"That is not beach treasure," Bear said.

"Cleanup treasure," said Cat. "It belongs in the bin."

Dog carried it carefully to the beach bin near the path. The crew marked one tiny star on Rabbit's sand map.

## The Hidden Cove

The next clue led around the rocks to a shallow cove. Sunlight flashed on wet stones, and little pools held shells, pebbles, and tiny darting fish.

"Look first," said Rabbit.

"Touch only empty things," said Bear.

Cat spotted a shell with two feelers peeking out.

"Taken," she whispered, and stepped back.

Dog found smooth driftwood shaped like a tiny boat. Rabbit found a feather. Bear found a flat stone that looked like a coin if you squinted.

"Our treasure chest is getting full," said Dog.

"Our pretend treasure chest," Cat said.

"The best kind," said Bear.

## A New Clue

Beside the driftwood log, Bear noticed something shiny caught under a pebble.

It was a twist of silver wrapper.

"Another cleanup treasure," said Rabbit.

They searched the sand nearby and found two more pieces: a yellow straw wrapper and a bit of string tangled around a stick.

"The beach is giving us a mission," said Cat.

Dog lifted his scarf like a flag. "Pirates of the Clean Shore!"

Together, they carried every bit to the bin. Then they went back to check the cove one more time.

## Home as Proud Pirates

The sun slid lower, and the map in the sand began to blur.

The friends spread their safe beach finds on a towel: driftwood, feather, flat stone, and three empty shells.

"No gold," said Dog.

"No crowns," said Cat.

"Still treasure," said Bear.

Rabbit drew a final X beside the bin. "This is where the beach got cleaner."

They marched home in a wobbly pirate line, carrying the towel between them and planning tomorrow's map.
