# Lily and Max's Circus Adventure

_A Magical Quest to Find Their Parents' Missing Song_

## Story

## The Missing Circus Song

Lily and Max lived with their parents beside a bright circus tent. Their family act ended with a song their mother played on a little silver flute.

On the morning of the big show, the flute was safe in its case, but the song card was missing.

"I know most of it," Mom said, "but the ending has tricky notes."

Dad checked the music stand. Max checked the costume trunk. Lily found a trail of gold dust leading toward the old mirror behind the tent.

The mirror shimmered and showed a tiny road.

## Through the Mirror

Lily and Max did not step through by themselves. They called their parents and the ringmaster first.

"We will go together," the ringmaster said. "And we will leave a chalk mark so we know the way back."

Through the mirror was the Secret Circus Kingdom, where tents floated like balloons and rabbits wore waistcoats with many pockets.

A rabbit named Nib showed them the first clue: three music notes stamped in the gold dust.

"The wind sprites borrowed the card," Nib said. "They like songs, but they forget to ask."

## The Secret Circus Kingdom

The wind sprites lived in a bell tent that hummed when anyone opened the flap.

Lily bowed. "We are looking for our mother's song card."

The smallest sprite blushed. "We borrowed it to practice. We meant to return it after one more chorus."

Max almost snapped, "You should not take things." Then he saw the sprite's worried face and tried again.

"Please ask next time," he said. "We need it for tonight."

The sprites returned the card, but one corner had curled in the windy tent.

## Fixing the Ending

The notes were still readable except the last line.

Nib brought a feather pen. The ringmaster hummed the tune. Mom remembered the first half of the ending. Lily remembered hearing the last three notes during breakfast.

Together they wrote the line again.

The wind sprites listened carefully. Then they gave the family a small charm that kept paper from blowing away.

"For asking kindly," said the smallest sprite.

## Home Sweet Home

The mirror road led them back to the circus before rehearsal.

That night, Mom played the silver flute. The ending rose clear and sweet, and the charm kept the song card still on its stand.

After the bow, Lily and Max tucked the card into a folder labeled Ask Before Borrowing.

The adventure had not made them fearless. It had made them careful: careful with clues, careful with other people's things, and careful to bring grown-ups into a mystery before stepping through a magical mirror.
