## Story

## Jack's Juggling Dream

Jack loved juggling socks, oranges, beanbags, and once, by mistake, three dinner rolls.

His dream was not to be the greatest juggler in the world. It was simpler than that: he wanted to juggle in the circus ring without dropping everything on his shoes.

Each afternoon he practiced beside the laundry line. Toss, toss, catch. Drop. Pick up. Try again.

## Jack's Magical Discovery

One day, Jack found three red balls in a box marked Prop Room - Ask First.

Jack did ask. Prop Master Leona checked the box and raised her eyebrows.

"These are enchanted practice balls," she said. "They glow when the juggler keeps a steady rhythm."

Jack held one carefully. "May I try?"

"On the mat," Leona said. "With me watching."

Jack tossed the first ball. It glowed faintly. He tossed the second, then the third. For four whole catches, the balls shone like tiny lanterns.

Then he dropped all three.

## The Balls Have Opinions

The enchanted balls were not harmful, but they were fussy.

When Jack rushed, they turned dull. When he held his breath, they wobbled. When he laughed and counted evenly, they glowed.

"They are teaching you timing," Leona said.

Jack practiced with a metronome. Tick, toss. Tick, catch. Tick, breathe.

By the end of the week, he could keep the balls glowing for half a minute.

## The Enchanted Juggler Shines

At rehearsal, the ringmaster watched Jack's routine.

Jack did not add sparks, storms, or dramatic leaps. He stood on the mat, counted softly, and tossed the glowing balls in a neat red circle.

Halfway through, one ball dipped. Jack slowed down instead of grabbing at it. The rhythm returned, and the glow brightened again.

"That is a good act," the ringmaster said. "It shows practice."

Jack beamed.

## A New Name

At the evening show, Jack's hands trembled when the music began.

He looked at Leona, who tapped the beat with one finger.

Tick, toss. Tick, catch. Tick, breathe.

The balls glowed red, warm, and steady. The audience clapped in time. Jack finished with all three balls safe in his hands.

The ringmaster introduced him afterward as Jack, the Enchanted Juggler.

Jack liked the name, but he liked the practice even more.

## The Routine Grows

Jack kept the glowing balls in the prop room and asked before using them every time.

Some days they glowed brightly. Some days they barely glowed at all. Leona told him that was normal.

"Magic works best when you respect it," she said. "So does juggling."

Jack wrote that on a card and tucked it into his pocket before every show.
