## Story

Penny the Pig loved three things: solving puzzles, eating snacks, and leaving crumbs everywhere she went. Today, she loved nothing.

Her tummy felt heavy like a rock, even though she had not eaten since breakfast. Her favorite graham crackers sat untouched in their box. Even the apple slices looked boring.

"What is wrong with me?" Penny whispered to her empty room.

She dragged her hooves toward the door, leaving a trail of yesterday's pretzel crumbs behind her.

Penny's feet took her somewhere new, a building with tall windows and a red door. She pushed it open.

Books. Everywhere. Stacked high like towers. Lined up like soldiers. Piled in baskets like treasures. Soft chairs hugged the corners. Little lamps made everything glow gold and orange. The air smelled like paper and cinnamon.

Penny's heavy tummy felt a tiny bit lighter. She tiptoed inside, her hooves silent on the thick carpet.

Penny chose the biggest, squishiest chair and scrambled up. She grabbed a book about dancing cupcakes. But before she could open it, something wet rolled down her cheek.

A tear. Then another. Then so many tears she could not count them all.

They splashed onto the cupcakes on the page. They made the frosting look blurry. Penny's nose got sniffy. Her chest felt tight. She was crying, and she did not even know why.

"Maybe food will help," Penny said, wiping her snout.

She searched the shelves for books about pizza. About ice cream. About birthday cakes with sprinkles. She stared at every yummy picture. Her tummy stayed heavy.

She dug in her pocket and found cookie crumbs from two days ago. She ate them one by one, slowly. Still heavy.

She picked a different chair. Then another chair. Then she sat on the floor. Nothing changed. The library felt too big. Penny felt too small. The tears kept coming, quiet and steady.

"Oh, little one."

Penny looked up. A brown owl in tiny glasses stood beside her chair. The owl's voice sounded soft like bedtime stories.

"I am Mrs. Owl," she said. "I work here."

Mrs. Owl did not ask questions. She pulled a chair close, not too close, exactly right, and sat down. She reached into her feather pocket and pulled out a tissue.

Penny took it. It was the softest tissue she had ever felt.

"Books are wonderful friends when our hearts feel heavy," Mrs. Owl said gently. "May I read one to you?"

Penny nodded, still sniffling.

Mrs. Owl picked a story about a little cloud who wanted a friend in the big sky. Her voice went up for the happy parts and down for the quiet parts. She made whooshing sounds for the wind. She pointed to every picture.

Penny leaned closer. Mrs. Owl's wing felt warm against her side.

When the story ended, Mrs. Owl stood. "I will be right back."

She returned with a small cup. "Warm milk. My grandmother's recipe."

Penny sipped. Sweet and creamy. The warmth traveled all the way to her tummy, melting the heavy rock a little.

_Plink plink_: crumbs tumbled from Penny's pocket onto the chair. Crumbs always followed Penny everywhere.

"Oh no," Penny whispered. "I am sorry. I am always messy."

Mrs. Owl smiled. "Crumbs clean up easily. But heavy hearts need time and care. You matter much more than crumbs."

The heavy rock in Penny's tummy cracked. Then crumbled. Then disappeared. Penny smiled, a real, true smile.

Penny walked to the library door. Sunshine poured through the windows, painting everything gold. She turned back. Mrs. Owl was humming and putting books away.

Penny remembered everything: the tissue, the story, the warm milk, the kind words about crumbs being okay. Small things. Simple things. But they changed her heavy heart into a light one.

"Next time I see someone with a heavy heart," Penny said to herself, "I will sit with them."

She stepped outside, already watching for friends who might need kindness.
