## Story

Rainbow woke with the sunrise, just like every morning.

Her mane shimmered with colors-red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple-as she stepped into the dewy grass.

"Good morning, butterflies!" she called to the yellow and orange wings dancing near the wildflowers.

The butterflies fluttered around her horn.

"We cannot find the purple blossoms today," one whispered.

Rainbow walked with them to the far edge of the meadow where the purple flowers grew tallest.

"Here you are."

Next, she found the rabbit family nibbling at the tough grass.

Rainbow used her horn to gently pull up the sweetest clover and placed it before them.

"This will taste much better," she said.

The mother rabbit wiggled her nose gratefully.

"You always help us, Rainbow."

Rainbow smiled.

Her mornings always began this way-greeting each creature, listening to their needs, and helping however she could.

Then something changed.

A thick fog rolled across the meadow like a gray blanket being pulled over the world.

Rainbow watched as the crystal stream disappeared from view.

The wildflowers vanished.

Even her own hooves became fuzzy shapes beneath her.

"Hello?" Rainbow called.

Her voice sounded muffled and strange.

She took a careful step forward, then another.

Where was the old oak tree?

Where was the path to the stream?

Every landmark she knew had been swallowed by the fog.

Rainbow's heart beat faster.

She had never felt so turned around in her own home.

But she remembered what she always told the younger creatures: stay calm and keep moving forward.

She walked slowly, testing each step.

The fog grew thicker.

The ground beneath her hooves changed from soft grass to something harder-packed earth and scattered leaves.

When the fog finally began to thin, Rainbow looked around.

Her stomach tightened.

These were not her meadow trees.

These trunks grew twisted and close together.

Unfamiliar bird calls echoed overhead.

"Watch where you step!" a sharp voice snapped.

Rainbow jumped back.

A hedgehog glared at her from beside a small burrow, his spines bristling.

"I am so sorry," Rainbow said gently.

"I did not see your home. The fog turned me around, and I cannot find my way back to the meadow. Could you help me, please?"

The hedgehog's eyes narrowed.

"Not my problem. Go that way." He pointed his nose toward the thickest part of the forest.

Rainbow's chest felt heavy, but she thanked him anyway and walked in the direction he had shown.

The trees grew even closer together here.

The paths twisted and turned until Rainbow could not tell which way she had come from.

A rustling sound made her turn.

A squirrel sat on a low branch, wringing her paws and muttering to herself.

"Excuse me," Rainbow said softly.

"I am trying to find my way back to the rainbow meadow. Do you know which way I should go?"

The squirrel barely looked at her.

"I have my own problems. I buried acorns somewhere around here yesterday, and now I cannot remember where. Winter is coming, and I need those acorns!"

The squirrel's voice trembled with worry.

Rainbow could have walked away.

She could have kept searching for her own path home.

But she noticed how the squirrel's paws shook and remembered how the rabbits had looked when they could not find good food.

"May I help you look?" Rainbow offered.

The squirrel blinked in surprise.

"You would do that? Even though I said I could not help you?"

"Of course," Rainbow said.

"You are worried, and I can help."

Together they searched the forest floor.

Rainbow used her horn to gently push aside leaves while the squirrel checked under roots and rocks.

After several minutes, Rainbow uncovered a small pile of acorns hidden beneath a fallen log.

"You found them!" The squirrel's whole face brightened.

"Thank you!"

A harsh caw sounded above them.

A large crow landed on a nearby branch, his feathers ruffled and his eyes watchful.

"What do you want?" the crow asked, eyeing Rainbow with suspicion.

"I am trying to find my way home to the rainbow meadow," Rainbow explained.

"I became turned around in the fog."

The crow shifted on his branch.

"Cannot help. Got my own troubles. Big storm coming tonight, and my nest has a hole in it. No time for anything else."

Rainbow could see bits of straw and twigs falling from the crow's nest above.

She understood why he felt so worried.

"A hole in your nest must be very concerning," Rainbow said with genuine care in her voice.

"When the storm comes tonight, remember to tuck yourself into the driest corner. The wind usually blows from the west, so face east and you will stay warmer."

The crow tilted his head, studying her.

"You are giving me advice? Even though I said I would not help you?"

"You need help right now," Rainbow said simply.

"That matters."

Something shifted in the crow's expression.

He glanced at the squirrel, who nodded.

"She helped me find my acorns even when I said I had no time for her," the squirrel said quietly.

"She did not get angry or mean. She just helped."

The crow ruffled his feathers, looking uncomfortable.

"The rainbow meadow is back that way," he said, pointing with his wing.

"Past the three birch trees, then follow the sound of water. But the paths are tricky."

"I will show you," the squirrel offered, hopping down from her branch.

"It is the least I can do."

"I will fly ahead and make sure you do not take any wrong turns," the crow added, spreading his wings.

Rainbow's heart felt warm and full.

"Thank you both so much."

They traveled together through the forest, the squirrel leading on the ground while the crow circled overhead, calling out directions.

The paths did twist and turn, just as the crow had warned.

Rainbow would have gotten more turned around without their help.

As they neared the edge of the forest, a familiar prickly shape appeared on the path ahead.

The hedgehog shuffled his feet and would not quite meet Rainbow's eyes.

"I heard you helped the squirrel and the crow," he said gruffly.

"Even after I was rude to you. Even after I sent you the wrong way on purpose."

Rainbow's eyes widened, but she did not speak harshly.

She waited.

"I was wrong," the hedgehog continued, his voice softer now.

"The meadow is just through there." He pointed with his nose toward a break in the trees where golden light filtered through.

"I am sorry I was not kinder."

"Thank you for telling me," Rainbow said gently.

"And thank you for showing me the right way now. That took courage."

The hedgehog's spines relaxed a little.

He almost smiled.

Rainbow stepped through the trees and gasped with relief.

There was her meadow, sparkling in the afternoon sun.

The fog had lifted completely.

She could see the crystal stream, the wildflowers, and the old oak tree exactly where they should be.

"Would you all like to visit sometime?" Rainbow asked, turning back to her new friends.

"The meadow has plenty of sweet clover, clear water, and nice sunny spots. You would be welcome anytime."

The squirrel's eyes brightened.

"Really? We could visit?"

"I would like that," the crow admitted.

Even the hedgehog nodded.

"Maybe I will come by. If that is truly all right."

"It is more than all right," Rainbow said warmly.

"It would make the meadow even better."

The next morning, Rainbow woke with the sunrise, just like always.

She stretched and stepped into the dewy grass, her rainbow mane shimmering in the light.

"Good morning, butterflies!" she called.

But today, she heard new voices answering her greeting.

"Good morning, Rainbow!" called the squirrel, who was gathering sweet grass seeds near the stream.

"Morning!" cawed the crow from the old oak tree, where he was teaching the songbirds a new melody.

Even the hedgehog had curled up in a sunny spot near the rabbit burrow, sharing space peacefully with the rabbit family.

The mother rabbit hopped over to Rainbow.

"Your new friends are wonderful," she said.

"The squirrel showed us where the best seeds grow. The crow warned us about the storm last night so we could prepare. Even the hedgehog helped dig a better burrow entrance."

Rainbow looked around her meadow, now filled with both old friends and new ones.

The butterflies landed on the crow's wings.

The squirrel shared her knowledge with the rabbits.

The hedgehog let a tiny mouse rest beside him in the warm sun.

Everything looked the same as it always had-the wildflowers, the stream, the old oak tree.

But something important had changed.

The meadow felt bigger now, with more voices, more laughter, and more helping paws and wings.

Rainbow smiled and walked over to join them all, ready to see what this new morning would bring.
