## Story

## Leo's Dream

Leo was a young knight-in-training in a small castle with blue flags.

He loved polishing armor, feeding the horses, and reading stories about knights who helped their neighbors.

Leo wanted to become a kind and useful knight.

There was one thing he worried about: tall places.

When Leo stepped onto a ladder, his knees shook. When he looked down from the stable loft, his hands gripped the railing.

"Maybe knights are not supposed to feel nervous," he told his mentor, Sir Rowan.

"Knights can feel nervous," Sir Rowan said. "The useful part is what they do next."

## Leo's Mission

One windy morning, the king sent for Leo.

"The tower lantern has gone dim," the king said. "It guides travelers home at dusk. Would you help carry down the spare glow-crystal from the tower room?"

Leo looked toward the tallest tower. His stomach tightened.

"I want to help," he said. "But the tower stairs make me nervous."

"Then take the stairs the knightly way," said Sir Rowan. "Prepare, ask for advice, and stop when you need a steady breath."

Leo nodded. He did not feel fearless. He did feel willing to try.

## Finding a Steady Step

Before going up the tower, Leo visited the courtyard tree.

"Excuse me," he said to the birds on the high branches. "How do you stay calm up there?"

"We look where we are landing next," one bird chirped. "Not all the way down."

Leo wrote that down: _Look at the next step._

"What about you?" Leo asked a squirrel.

"I pause," said the squirrel. "Then I breathe. Then I move."

The squirrel breathed in, held still, and breathed out.

Leo tried it too. His shoulders dropped a little.

"Thank you," Leo said. "Next step. Slow breath. I can practice that."

## The Tower Steps

Leo stood at the tower door with Sir Rowan below and two friends waiting in the courtyard.

He kept one hand on the rail.

"Next step," he whispered.

Halfway up, his legs began to shake.

"Pause and breathe," called Sir Rowan.

Leo breathed in. He breathed out. He looked at the next step, not the floor below.

At the top, the tower room glowed softly. The spare crystal waited in a padded box.

"I made it," Leo said, surprised.

He tucked the box under one arm and came down the same careful way.

## Success and Gratitude

Leo carried the glow-crystal to the throne room.

The king placed it in the lantern keeper's hands. That evening, the tower lantern shone over the road again.

"Well done, Leo," said the king. "You helped the whole kingdom find its way home."

"I felt nervous," Leo said.

"And careful," said Sir Rowan. "That matters."

The king gave Leo a small shield charm, not for battles, but to hang on his belt as a reminder.

On the back were three tiny words: _Next steady step._

After that, Leo still felt nervous in high places. But he knew what to do next: hold the rail, breathe slowly, and look for the next step.
