## Story

## Betsy Finds a New Path

Once upon a time, there was a cute little bunny named Betsy. She loved to play in the forest with her friends and hop around all day long. The forest was full of trees, flowers, and other animals that made it an exciting place for Betsy to explore.

One day while playing with her friends, they decided to hop further into the forest than usual. They found some new bushes to nibble on and new streams to drink from, but when it was time to go back home, something went wrong.

Betsy realized she could not find her way back home. She looked around, trying to spot any familiar landmarks, but everything seemed different now. Her heart beat quickly as she started feeling nervous by herself.

She hopped around in circles, hoping something would look familiar, but nothing did. Betsy did not know what to do or where to turn next. She wanted someone who could help her find the way back home.

## Betsy Meets a Friendly Butterfly

Betsy was off the path in the forest. She did not know which way to go, and she was starting to feel nervous. A beautiful butterfly came fluttering by, its colorful wings catching the sunlight.

"Hello there," said the butterfly cheerfully. "Are you looking for a path?"

Betsy nodded sadly, grateful for the company of this friendly creature.

"We can look together," said the butterfly kindly. "I can help guide you from above."

Betsy's ears perked up at the idea of having some help getting home!

The butterfly explained that he knew where all the best flowers were, so he could fly ahead over trees and streams while Betsy followed the path below.

Excited by this idea, Betsy followed below as the butterfly fluttered ahead.

As the butterfly soared over treetops and streams, Betsy giggled with delight. Following him felt almost like flying.

Soon enough, she began to see familiar landmarks such as tall oak trees and pretty wildflowers blooming around them again, making it easier for them to navigate their way safely through the forest once more.

## The Wise Owl's Advice

Betsy had been hopping around the forest for a while now, trying to find her way back home, but everything looked the same. The friendly butterfly offered to help guide her, but also suggested they speak with the wise owl who lived nearby. Together, they followed the stream until they came across an old owl perched on a branch.

"Good evening, young ones," said the wise old owl in his warm voice as he turned his head toward them. The butterfly explained their situation and asked if he had any advice on how to find Betsy's way back home.

The wise old owl listened carefully as Betsy explained what happened, then closed his eyes thoughtfully before giving some sage advice. "Why not try using your sense of smell? Follow your nose and it will lead you straight back home."

Betsy felt silly not having thought of that earlier, but grateful for their new friend's wisdom. She thanked both animals for their help, then used her keen sense of smell to sniff out fresh carrots, which would lead her directly to her burrow.

As she hopped away, Betsy kept the owl's advice in her ears and the scent of carrots in her nose.

## Betsy Follows the Scent of Carrots

Betsy hopped along, following the delicious scent of fresh carrots. The smell was too good to resist! She felt hopeful once again that she would find her way home. Her nose led her through bushes and trees until she reached a big river.

"Oh no," Betsy exclaimed as she saw the wide river blocking her path. "How will I ever get across?"

She sat on the bank of the river, unsure what to try next, when she heard someone calling out, "Hello? Who is there?" It was Sammy Salmon swimming upstream.

"Hi, Sammy. It is me, Betsy," said Betsy.

"Betsy! What are you doing here all by yourself?" asked Sammy curiously.

"I wandered off the path and am trying to find my way back home," replied Betsy.

"I will help you cross this river so you can continue your trip," promised Sammy kindly.

With his strong fins, he swam across while letting Betsy hop onto his tail for a safe ride. They made it safely to the other side, where they continued their search for home together.

They followed the scent of fresh carrots again, giggling when Betsy hopped too close to the river mud and left tiny prints behind her.

## Sammy Salmon to the Rescue

Betsy sat by the riverbank, unsure what to do. She had been trying hard to find her way back home, but the river was wide. Just as she was about to turn around, she heard a voice calling out from the water.

"Hello? Who is there?" it said.

Betsy looked around and saw a salmon swimming upstream toward her. He was big and strong with shiny scales that sparkled in the sunlight.

"I am Betsy," she replied. "I need help finding my path."

Sammy Salmon smiled warmly at Betsy and offered his help right away. "I can help you cross this river safely with my strong fins."

Betsy felt relieved and hopped onto Sammy's tail. He crossed the river slowly and steadily, glancing back whenever the current tugged at her paws.

When they reached the other side, Betsy stepped onto the grass and shook river drops from her whiskers.

"Thank you, Sammy," she said. "That water looked too wide for me."

"You are welcome," said Sammy humbly as he waved goodbye before disappearing into another stream nearby where many other fish awaited him eagerly.

After that, Betsy remembered the silver flash of Sammy's tail whenever a stream looked too wide.

## Betsy Finds Her Way Home

Betsy's heart was beating quickly as she hopped along, following the scent of fresh carrots. She had been away from home for what felt like hours and was starting to feel tired. But then she saw it: the bushes outside her burrow.

As she got closer, she noticed all kinds of flowers blooming beautifully around them. It reminded her of how much she loved playing in the forest and exploring new places.

With a sense of relief washing over her, Betsy made it inside their cozy burrow, where everything was just as she remembered it. The soft beddings were still piled high with leaves and twigs from her previous adventures.

Feeling tired after such an eventful day, Betsy snuggled down into her comfy beddings with a sigh of contentment.

As Betsy drifted off to sleep that night, she dreamed of carrot-scented paths, sparkling river water, and the friends who had helped her find home.

## Sammy Salmon, the Forest Guide

After Betsy found her way home with Sammy's help, her friends gathered around her burrow and asked her to tell the story again.

As she described the wide river and Sammy's shining tail, everyone listened closely.

"I felt nervous," Betsy admitted, "but Sammy helped me cross."

Sammy flicked his tail from the stream. "I know the river bends," he said. "I can show you the shallow places."

Soon, the forest creatures called him Sammy Salmon, the Guide. He showed rabbits the shallow crossings, pointed squirrels toward fallen log bridges, and warned tiny mice where the current ran fast.

Sometimes Betsy hopped along the bank beside him, calling directions through the reeds. They never forgot the first river crossing that made them friends.
