Lila and Marina's Treasure Hunt
A Magical Adventure with a Mermaid Friend
Lila meets Marina the mermaid near a safe tide pool. Marina shares a family riddle about a hidden shell box, and Lila follows the clues from the shore with her family close by.
The Tide Pool
Lila loved beach walks with her family. She looked for smooth stones, cloud shapes, and tiny trails left by crabs.

One morning, she heard singing near a tide pool. A mermaid with a green tail rested in the clear water.
“Hello,” the mermaid said. “I am Marina.”
Lila looked back at her parents, who were close enough to see her wave.
“I am Lila,” she said. “Are you real?”
Marina laughed softly. “Real enough to need help with a riddle.”
Marina’s Riddle
Marina showed Lila a small drawing on a flat shell.

Where the red rock points to the morning sun, look for the shell that does not shine.
“My grandmother hid a family shell box years ago,” Marina said. “I can search the water, but the first clue is on land.”
Lila’s parents came over to hear the riddle.
“We can help from the shore,” Dad said. “No caves, no wet rocks, and we stay together.”
“Deal,” said Lila.
Marina flicked her tail happily.
The Shore Clues
The red rock was easy to find. It leaned toward the sunrise and looked like a sleeping fox.

Lila searched nearby without moving any living shells. She found one dull gray shell painted with a tiny blue dot.
“A clue shell,” she said.
Inside the shell was another drawing: three waves and a star.
Marina called from the tide pool. “I know that mark. It means the shallow reef.”
Lila walked along the shore while Marina swam beside her in the water. Mum carried the clue shells in a small towel so they would stay together.
The Shell Box
At the shallow reef, Marina dove beneath a curtain of sea grass. Lila waited on the sand with her family.

When Marina came back, she held a small shell box tied with blue ribbon.
“Is it full of jewels?” Lila asked.
Marina opened it. Inside were smooth shells, tiny drawings, and a song written in curling marks.
“Family stories,” Marina said. “That is our treasure.”
Lila liked that better than gold.
Moonlit Thanks
That evening, Lila and her family sat on a blanket with cocoa. Marina floated in the moonlit shallows.

Marina sang the old family song from the shell box. It sounded like waves over pebbles.
“Thank you for helping safely,” Marina said.
“Thank you for sharing the song,” Lila replied.
The shell box went home with Marina. The painted clue shells stayed in the tide pool, ready for the next gentle riddle.
