The Circus Animal Team

Caring for Each Other at the Circus

The Circus Animal Team

The circus animal friends are getting ready for a bright parade when Ellie the elephant starts feeling unwell. Instead of rushing ahead with the show, the group works together to help Ellie rest, ask for care, and adjust the parade so everyone can take part safely.

Parade Practice

The circus animals were preparing for the evening parade.

Milo the monkey tied ribbons to the drum cart. Nala the lion carried lanterns in a basket. Ellie the elephant practiced the slow bell rhythm with her trunk.

Clang, clang, clang.

“Too fast,” said Nala.

“Too fancy,” said Milo.

Ellie smiled and tried again. Clang. Clang. Clang.

“Perfect,” said Nala.

Then Ellie lowered the bell and leaned against the cart.

A Friend Feels Unwell

“Ellie?” Milo asked.

Ellie blinked slowly. “My head feels heavy. I think I need to sit down.”

No one groaned about the parade. No one told Ellie to hurry.

“Water first,” said Nala.

“Shade second,” said Milo.

“And we tell Mara,” said Ellie, because Mara was the animal-care worker who knew what to check.

Milo ran to fetch Mara. Nala pulled the bell cart away from the sunny patch. Ellie settled onto a thick mat near the open side of the tent, where cool air moved through the canvas.

Caring for Ellie

Mara checked Ellie’s ears, eyes, and temperature. “She needs rest today,” Mara said. “No parade practice.”

Ellie’s ears drooped. “But the bell rhythm starts the whole parade.”

“Then we change the start,” Nala said.

Milo held up two tiny cymbals. “I can play a quiet version.”

Clink. Clink. Clink.

Ellie laughed, then stopped because laughing made her head wobble.

“Quiet version,” Mara said, smiling. “That sounds right.”

The friends took turns keeping Ellie company. Milo told her what was happening in practice. Nala brought fresh water. Mara made sure Ellie had enough space to nap.

A Gentler Parade

That evening, the crowd gathered under the big top.

Milo stood at the front with his cymbals.

Clink. Clink. Clink.

The parade began softly. Nala carried the lantern basket. The ponies walked in a neat line. The dancers waved ribbons that shimmered like little rivers.

Ellie watched from her resting mat beside Mara. She did not have to perform to be part of the team. When the parade passed her, everyone dipped their lanterns toward her.

“That part was for you,” Milo whispered.

Ellie lifted her trunk in a small, happy salute.

Back on Her Feet

The next morning, Ellie felt stronger.

She did not jump up and rush back to practice. She drank water, ate breakfast, and waited for Mara to check her again.

“One gentle bell,” Mara said.

Ellie picked up the bell.

Clang.

Everyone cheered, but softly.

Milo grinned. “The quiet parade was good.”

“The full parade can wait until everyone is ready,” Nala said.

Ellie looked at her friends. “Thank you for listening when I said I needed rest.”

“That is what a team does,” said Milo. “We hear the quiet parts too.”
