The Resting Baby Seal
A Tale of Careful Helping on the Beach
Crab, Seagull, and Turtle find a young seal resting on the beach. They want to help, so they keep their distance, watch for the seal's family, and guide a beach visitor to call trained wildlife rescuers.
A Quiet Cry
Crab, Seagull, and Turtle were playing near the tide pools when they heard a soft cry from the rocks.

They looked carefully and saw a young seal resting on the sand. The seal blinked at them, then tucked its flippers close.
“Is it waiting?” Crab whispered.
“Maybe it is resting,” Turtle said.
Seagull flapped once, then landed farther away. “We should not crowd it.”
The three friends stayed back where the seal could see them without feeling surrounded.
Keeping Space
Crab wanted to scuttle closer, but Turtle shook his head.

“Young seals rest on beaches,” Turtle said. “Touching can scare them.”
“What can we do?” Crab asked.
“I can watch from the sky,” said Seagull. “Maybe its mother is in the water.”
Seagull flew in a wide circle. Turtle stayed between the seal and the busy path, leaving lots of room. Crab stood near a shell pile and waved his claws when beach walkers came too close.
“Please go around,” Crab called in his tiny crab voice.
Most people did not hear him, but one child noticed the seal and stopped.
Asking an Adult
“Dad, there is a seal,” the child said. “Should we help it?”

“We help by staying back,” Dad said. “I will call the local wildlife rescue number on the beach sign.”
The child nodded and stepped away from the rocks. Dad made the call and described the seal from a distance.
Soon two trained rescuers arrived in bright jackets. They looked at the seal without touching it at first. They checked the beach, the water, and the space around the rocks.
“Thank you for keeping people back,” one rescuer told the child.
Crab clicked happily from his shell pile.
The Patient Ending
The rescuers placed a small sign nearby so people would give the young seal plenty of room. They said they would keep watching and help only if the seal needed it.

Seagull spotted a larger seal in the water beyond the rocks.
“Look,” she said softly.
The young seal lifted its head. A little later, when the beach was quiet, it shuffled toward the water and slipped into the waves.
Crab let out a tiny cheer.
“We helped without touching,” Turtle said.
“And without feeding,” Seagull added.
The friends watched the ripples fade. Then they returned to their tide pool game, leaving the beach calm behind them.
