Buddy's Library Promise
Buddy Makes a Search Plan
Buddy helps Sarah search for her missing library card. With a map, a careful plan, and help from library friends, he learns that big searches are easier together.
The Oakwood Library was a magical place, where sunbeams danced through tall windows and comfortable chairs invited readers of all ages to stay awhile. Among the tall bookshelves lived Buddy, a golden retriever puppy with an important job. He was the library’s reading companion and Sarah’s best friend.

Every Wednesday afternoon, Buddy and Sarah hosted their special reading club in the children’s corner, where colorful bean bags and plush carpets made storytelling extra cozy. But this Wednesday was different. Sarah arrived with tears streaming down her face, clutching her empty book bag.
“Oh, Buddy,” she sniffled, “I cannot find my library card!”

With his nose leading the way, Buddy began his search through the quiet aisles. He carefully checked under every reading table, behind each computer station, and between all the bean bags in the children’s section. His paws padded softly across the carpet as he investigated Sarah’s usual reading spots.
The morning stretched on, and the library card stayed hidden. Buddy sat down near the reference section, his ears drooping. The library seemed enormous, with tall shelves and many places where a small card could disappear.

Then Buddy remembered something important. Good detectives make a plan. He trotted to the front desk, where Mrs. Parker, the kind librarian, was sorting returns. Using his paw, he pointed to a notepad and gave her his best “please help” expression.
Mrs. Parker understood. She helped Buddy create a map of Sarah’s favorite reading spots: the Fantasy Corner with its dragon murals, the cozy Window Seat where birds often perched outside, and the Poetry Nook with its twinkling star lights.

Even with his new map, Buddy needed more help. He approached other library visitors, greeting them with friendly wags and gentle woofs. Soon, children, parents, and Mr. Wilson from the newspaper table joined the search.

While checking the Fantasy Corner for the third time, Buddy remembered Sarah’s reading habit. She used her library card as a bookmark. He hurried to the fairy tale section and found “The Dragon’s Garden,” Sarah’s favorite story. There, tucked between pages 43 and 44, was the missing library card.

The following Wednesday became a library celebration. Sarah and Buddy hosted their biggest reading club yet, with homemade cookies approved by the librarian and thank-you cards for everyone who helped. As Sarah read aloud, Buddy curled up beside her, surrounded by their wider circle of library friends.
