Hopscotch Hearts: A Playground Tale
A Tale of True Friendship
A shy rabbit steps out from behind the rose bushes to help a quiet girl feel welcome on the playground. With courage and creativity, Pip shows the children that the best games are the ones where everyone has room to play.
Every morning, Pip the white rabbit would hop to the neighborhood playground, his bright blue eyes scanning the familiar scene. He loved watching the children play from his special spot behind the rose bushes, but never joined in their games.

Each day followed the same pattern: swing sets squeaking, slides whooshing, and children laughing while Pip observed silently. He especially noticed Sarah, a quiet girl who often sat by herself on the bench, drawing in her notebook. One unusual morning, Pip saw something that made his heart squeeze. Some older kids had picked up Sarah’s notebook without asking, passing it between them while she reached for it. Tears filled her eyes.

Without thinking, Pip hopped out from his hiding place. The children froze, amazed at seeing a rabbit in their playground. Using this distraction, Pip jumped and caught the notebook mid-air, landing gracefully beside Sarah.

Moving from watching to friendship was not easy. Some children felt nervous, others curious. Pip had to show them he was friendly, starting with gentle hops toward the group. Sarah smiled for the first time, introducing her new rabbit friend to everyone. But challenges remained. How could a rabbit join in playground games? Pip got creative. He learned to push the merry-go-round with his strong back legs. He became an expert at finding hidden treasures during scavenger hunts.

Sometimes, other kids still left Sarah out of games. That was when Pip had his biggest realization: he could be the bridge. When he invited Sarah to play, others followed. She was soon teaching everyone to draw, creating wonderful pictures of their playground adventures.

Returning to his old hiding spot one afternoon, Pip watched the playground with new eyes. Where he once saw separate groups, he now saw possibilities for connection. The next morning, he started a new game called “Hop Along With Me,” where everyone had to include someone new.

Now, Pip’s playground routine was completely different. Instead of hiding and watching, he became the playground’s friendship ambassador. Every morning, he made sure no one sat by themselves, teaching everyone that the best games are the ones where everyone plays together.
