The Park Pup's New Friends
A Tale of True Friendship
Scout, a playful puppy, wants new friends in Maple Grove Park. When he upsets Nutkin's careful acorn collection, he learns to notice what matters to others and repair a friendship with care.
In Maple Grove Park, where tall trees swayed and walking paths wound like ribbons, lived a playful golden retriever puppy named Scout. Every morning, Scout would watch children and their pets having fun together, but he did not have any friends of his own yet.

One sunny morning, Scout ventured further into the park than usual, his tail wagging hopefully as he explored the meadow area. He spotted a friendly squirrel named Nutkin arranging acorns in neat patterns on a bench.
“Hello!” Scout called out, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically, causing Nutkin to jump.

Nutkin introduced Scout to his friend Flutter, a blue jay who loved collecting shiny things. The three began spending time together, sharing adventures around the park. Scout learned to be gentle when playing with his smaller friends, and they taught him about their favorite hiding spots.
However, one day, Scout got so excited during a game that he accidentally scattered Nutkin’s carefully arranged acorn collection.

“My autumn storage!” Nutkin chittered anxiously. “It took me all morning to sort those!”
Scout felt awful, but instead of apologizing, he barked, “But it is just a pile of acorns.”
Flutter fluttered away in disappointment, while Nutkin scampered up the nearest tree.

As Scout sat by the pond, watching his reflection, he remembered how it felt to hope for a friend. He realized that friends should care about what matters to each other, even if they do not understand why.

The next morning, Scout arrived early at the park. He had spent hours gathering acorns and arranging them neatly on the bench, just the way Nutkin liked them. When Nutkin and Flutter arrived, they found Scout waiting nervously.
“I am sorry about yesterday,” Scout said softly. “I made you a new collection, and I promise to be more careful when we play.”

Nutkin and Flutter were touched by Scout’s thoughtfulness. Together, they created a new game: “Acorn Adventure,” where Scout would carefully carry acorns in his mouth while Nutkin directed him and Flutter kept watch from above.

From that day on, the trio became close friends, showing everyone in Maple Grove Park that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes and that the best games are the ones where everyone’s talents shine.
